Thought some of you Porsche trackdayers might like to have a gander at this it's a Google Earth overlay of 3 of my laps around the Brands hatch GP Circuit definitely not my fastest times ever grumpy but it was very damp especially out the back of the circuit around Hawthorns, Westfield, Sheene (nee Dingle Dell) and Stirlings there were plenty of spins around those bends so a little precaution was necessary....well thats my excuse anyways, just click on this highlighted link once there click "view in google earth" it should take you straight to Brands hatch I reckon this is a cool piece of technology even if it seems a bit useless

note that the track has been widened in various places and that it still shows Dingle Dell as it was which is why it appears that I've run off the Track (no it aint cos I can't drive....others may say different ) also click on the place marker and there' a little bit more info there...... OH! something I forgot if you go into the side menu in your temp places click on the temp place marker and it shoud expand enabling you to turn on and off each lap....thats if it works...... cool cool eh !
Any of you RS Porscheophiles got any Lap time data (or any data logging info for that matter) which you'd like to share it would be nice to be able to have something to compare against good or bad, I know the GT3 RS lads are running around 1' 40" the best I've managed was 1' 48"

Don't have any of GP circuit but do have some data logs of indy cct. you'll have to down load the software to view though. goto www.trackmate.com and click on "share" and "download laps". Download the software and then down load the brands hatch indy file (within share & compare) don't download the first one listed (it does'nt work) download the second one listed it's labelled .tqm i think

To help with any sort of comparison my car is 964RS with KW suspension and Dunlop Do2G (direzza's) and virtually stock engine save for a cup pipe. Nut behind the wheel is the worst component!

finally sorted it out here ave a butchers at this link but dont forget to click on "View in Google Earth" and not "View in Google maps".....see how google Earth satellite map needs updating around dingle Dell (or sheene curve as it's now called I believe).....totally useless but midly amusing
http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthread
when you view in google Earth it will place the .KML file in your temporary Places if you click on this you will get an information bubble come up on screen with some more Blurb also if you expand the Brands Hatch GP title in your Temporary Places you will be able to turn each lap on or off....pretty cool stuff ...not quite sure what you can use it for other than amusing oneself ?

Hmmm. yes, a bit of fun and it does show the relative difference between laps, but with this type of logger the accuracy will only be in the 3-5 metre region at best and dependant on a number of factors including weather, tree cover and how the GPS antenna is installed. You can see this from the grassy excursions and much kerb hopping it seems to show!

Also, it suggests you're turning into Paddock a bit late and missing the apex every lap, or was this the case? blah

Racelogics Driftbox 10mHz GPS technology data had no dropouts so it must be fairly accurate I think the problem maybe with the Google Earth satellite map of Brands it's pretty much out of date as can be seen from Dingle dell (renamed Sheene corner) which has now lost the small chicane and been smoothed out considerably also the track has been widened at certain points around the track hence it looks as though I'm off the track at some points......Missing the apex of Paddock.......possibly on one or two occasions......I think it's maybe something to do with the coeriollis effect or maybe even a shift in the Earths magnetic polarity affecting the GPS.................wot a lot of old Bo**ox....laugh...Oh me best time I've managed around Brands GP circuit was 1' 48"
