Some advice please.....997 GT3 or F430
Discussion
I have a GT3 on order and it will be ready in early Aprill. But i have a problem, i had an order in for an F430 about a year ago for about this time build slot. I cancelled it as i thought you may see prices drop and thought id be able to pick up a used one and save me some penny's. Im sure i still want a 430 but dont want to be caught out on a early car for top money.
The thing is they dont seem to have dropped much. I see 2005 cars with 5/8000 miles which seem to be very close to list prices ie 5/10k off. I just looked quickly on the Ferrari website and they seem to offer extended warranties. So my first thought was that when they came to near the end of there warranty that the prices would drop away for what is a used car but also this doesnt seem the case.
What i dont want to do is buy the GT3 in March keep it for a few months realise then that i STILL want a 430 and lose money on the 3 when i go buy the 430. Also it will be kept on my drive, its not so much the theft that bothers as to the fact of do these cars do well kept outside with a car cover on them?
I really want a black car but before everyone starts saying there's a few on autotrader i just want to know if you think they are achieving the prices there offered at. I'd rather pay an extra 10k and have a brand new one. Or do you think keeping it on a drive is a bit to much for this car and that i would be better off with the GT3?
There's not many private cars to do deals with either.
Any advice welcome.

I ran a 360 as an everyday car, did 18000 miles in a year, never garaged it and never had a problem, well except for people having a go at me for letting a ferrari get so dirty!
If it was me it would come down to one simple question. Do you intend to use the car on the track? If you do then buy the GT3, it's a much better track car and will cost far less to rag around a track than the Ferrari. If you don't plan to track it, then buy the 430, they make very good road cars, easily useable everyday and for normal mileage without any issue.
If you worry about mileage, when I sold the 360 I got about £5k less compared to 4k mile cars... so 14k miles for 5k loss in a Ferrari... not bad in my book.
One thing with keeping the car outside. Most insurance companies don't like ungaraged Ferrari's but aren't too worried about Porsches. Something to think about.

As I understand it (simply from reading things on here and other forums over the past few months, and checking Autotrader and dreaming...) the F430s seem to be getting the prices they're asking for, with just a little bit off of list. A lot of the ones on Autotrader seem to be disappearing very quickly, but as soon as they've gone, new ones pop up. It seems to hover around 15-20 for sale on Autotrader at any one time, which isn't really that lower number. Whilst the demand is still up, you may want to wait a while to see how the market pans out. I'm no expert, but with an F430 replacement expected to be announced in the next year (or so I hear), you may want to get the GT3 and maybe then put your money done on the replacement. ATM, the demand for GT3s still seem to be quite high also, with people asking if there has been a cancelled order just so they can jump in the queue... Have a look at the Porsche forum, there is an entire thread on why the GT3 is such an amazing car (which you may have already read?), so it doesn't look like demand for that is going to drop any time soon either... And the review of it in Evo COTY won't damage its rep, either, I don't think.
And sorry, don't know about the srive thing.

Thanks chaps,
Id like to track the car a bit but nothing serious. I agree that the GT3 prices look like they may be firm for a few more months. As for insurance i have security bollards so i hope that goes some way to keeping them happy. I just cant help but wanting an F430 everytime i see one, not the same feeling i get when i see the GT3.

Bund, you just said it - get the F430.
I had mine for 3 months and lost a negligible amount on it, it was then marked up for £6k more (just over list) and sold quickly for that - when I was phoning around I was getting silly bids, some offering £2000 under, some £10k under, if you are prepared to do a bit of leg work, I reckon you'll get a car that will only go down £10k in the next 12 months (that's 'only' in the loosest sense of the word
) and it's a great car....not sure why I sold mine now actually.....Verdi have a nice black one under £120k but I guess you've seen that one.

But always go with your heart on a car purchase, buying the sensible choice or the one you think you should buy never works out and you'll always feel that you just settled.
Sounds like you should go buy a 430 now!
.... so about that GT3 slot you've got....

Lambojim,
Your the man i always think of when i ring round asking about these cars!! So why did you get rid of it? Iv seen the one at verdi's and it has 3 owners already, i dont think that will end up being one of the good ones. Jim, what do you think you can bid below the dealers prices?
The GT3 without a doubt looks good but just not the same special feeling as a Ferarri im sure. I would get one but might as well wait till March now and hope that a few more come in for the new reg and bring prices down a bit.
Speedyellow,
My GT3 by the way is white with black wheels. I think they will look good with the other black bits on the car(just not as good as a black F430)

430 doesn't do it for me ... the GT3 will be much rarer, should hold its value and i think it's the looker of the 2 . But it sounds like you need to get the Ferrari out of your system 1st ...
Hi Tony,
Thanks for the advice, im glad you have said that as i know you have had a few of both
. I do think i need to do the Ferrari thing but it might be worth me doing the GT3 thing first. I was hoping to get some good summer days on the track. If I take the 3 use it for a while the F430 will only come down in price(maybe not much) while im using it. tony h said:

Couldn't agree more Tony, hence why I went Lambo as I could have easily had a 430.
I think the 360CS is a great car and will always be worth a punt.
If you are thinking of a CS, I know Dion @ Elms has a minter at sensible money BUT you can always bid the Ferrari main dealers £5k below asking and leave your number - they'll ring you back don't worry. Having said all that, the GT3 is lovely too but you might as well scratch the Ferrari itch and be done with it - I did and got it out of my system but only today I was walking my son past HR Owens in South Ken and saw the silver F430 they had (nice and understated) and actually thought...I want of them again...they had a lovely blue one without shields on it too.
I recognise I have the same problem with cars as Darren Day has with birds basically.
You don't fancy a 997 like Lawrie Inman then...

Ha Ha no me and Lawrie have different tastes. I think iv seen the silver/Grey one @ 126k?
Why did you sell the 430 so soon?

As I've got a small son (and another on the way) I thought I needed little rear seats so bought a Conti GT Mulliner (sold that today), went the whole hog, Bentley baby seat etc - then realised that my wifes Cayenne is better for doing family stuff and I never used the GT any more than I did the 430. In truth I don't need a car as we are in the center of town and the lack of use just annoys me once the initial thrill wears off.
I really like the one for £126k in the showroom, I wouldn't have creme interior again as it stains easily and you end up being too fussy with golf clubs, mates, jeans etc (at least I did - sad)

The 997GT3 is a truly magical car fom a drivers perspective I am sure, and will beat a 430 hands down in real world driving conditions. I would love one, but at the end of the day its still a rebodied version of a 'cooking' sports car that is a very common site on the Queens highway.
The GT3 will never have the same sense of occasion to drive as a Ferrari or Lambo, and will not envoke the same sort of reaction from others (if thats what floats your boat!) - to most Joe Public types its just another 911 with a bodykit on it unfortunately.
But then....who gives a toss what others think about it - surely its the drive and useability that the owner gets rewarded with that matters I hear you say! - which is fair comment....but show me a Ferrari or Lambo driver that considers themselves to be an introvert and I will eat a hat of your choice.

I would like to think I only ever buy car for what i think of it as opposed to the outside world(i wish i had cared i might not have lost so much). The GT3 and 430 both look amzing to me and from I understand they will both be amazing to own(I havent driven either) Ferarri an inside accomplishment and the 3 the best of driving machines available in that price bracket.
They will need to live outside and be driven and not just to look at. Im thinking along the lines of taking the 3 and then the 430 with the hope that i dont lose much on the 3 and 430 comes down a bit. Im hoping!!
