my 88' has just stopped having final drive miles away from home, and i badly need it tomorrow afternoon.

the gears are all engaging, the prop is spinning when you let out the clutch and the car is trying very, very slightly to drive but isn't moving.

i have tried engaging both 4 and 2 wheel drive and nothing happens.

this has happened momentarily before, and i jiggled the overdrive lever about and it cured it. this of course may have been totally unrelated, and it just was a momentary blip that appeared to be cured by disengaging and engaging the overdrive a number of times.

what can it be? id really appreciate any thoughts you have folks, I'm really in a jam without it tomorrow.

Thanks In Advance.

Have you got free wheeling hubs on the front axle?,if you have,if you snap a half shaft and try putting it in four wheel drive with the hubs not ingaged you will not have any drive!

When the prop's spinning then a half axle is snapped. Retry to engage 4wd, I can't imagine this is buggered too.

The other snapped bit(s) will most likely not come out with only undoing the hub; be prepared to take the diff out.

If you put it in gear and the rear prop spins it figures to me that it must be at the axle end ie halfshaft but if it's doing this in 4wd I'll admit I'm a bit stumped. If you tried to stop the prop ie with the handbrake what happens?.

Nerv I'm sure I've asked this before but where are you based? If it's not too far I might be able to pop over.

Before you had the problem, did you play about with the levers in anyway? If so you will probably find that failure to engage the levers correctly will cause loss of drive.

Does the yellow lever have detent springs to hold it in gear? If it does this might cause loss of drive.
