Sorry chaps, not really a photography question but I know a few people on here have this scanner and it seemed a sensible place to ask.

How do I scan a .pdf document with more than one page? If I selected .pdf as the file type on my old cheapo Canon scanner it asked after each page if there was another. On my Epson it makes the one pass and I cannot see where to tell it that there are more pages. Anyone know which box to tick?

TIA

You not got the user manual?

Is there not one online you can look at?

Yes, I have had a good look through the user manual but unfortunately I haven’t found a reference to multiple page .pdf documents, hence my post on here.

If it's a pdf document surely it's already on your computer, so what are you scanning? Do you mean a multiple page printed document? If so I can't see where pdf comes into it. confused

Is it because it's intended as a photo/film scanner and not a document scanner as such?

If all else fails, can you not scan pages individually then collate them into one pdf document afterwards?

Can't think of another way round it.

I have not tried creating pdfs from the scanner but the Creativity Suite software idicates it is possible (I guess you already have) but makes no mention of multiple pages.

I suspect that they would expect you to be using an application to create a file and use the scanner to scan into the application.

So if using Adobe Acrobat you would use the scanner as a source for file content. Likewise Word and so on. The print/publish to pdf format from the application.

There may be other application that can use the 4990 to do what the scanning application for your Canon did BUT as PDF ceation has become more complex in recent releases - security and stuff like that for example - it may be that the apps shipped with scanners to not attempt to address that any more. Given that more and more editing and desktop publishing type applications seem to have gone for PDF output in a big way that may not be a surprise.

I could be wrong though.

Thanks all, it would appear that it isn’t possible using the Epson software but I have cracked it. I have a full copy of Adobe Acrobat and opening a new document from scanner gives me the option to add pages so job done!
