I'm doing a mod to my Carbon Fibre airbox, which involves fitting an aluminium bodied breather valve into the Carbon box, the box is all cut out and ready to fit the valve but I'm wondering what to use? I did previously try Epoxy glue (Araldite) but it stayed (or went) soft so didn't hold up well. I just need to hold the valve firmly in place and seal any gaps around it but it needs to stand up to an airbox environment of heat, vibration and oil.

Now I'm thinking of using Glass Fibre (not sure if I can get Carbon Fibre easily), is there any reason why this is a bad idea? will it stick to the Carbon OK? I must add that this is not a part that will be on show as it is on the inside and underside of the airbox so colour/texture match etc is not important.

Any tips, advice or ideas?

You can use S glass on to carbon but it is obviously not as good (or pretty) If you want to get hold of the bits you need easily speak to a good chandlery like purple marine or ldc. Epoxy resins like those from sp systems will o the job fine. Make sure you sand off the varnish on the carbon before you stick anything to it. Ideally you want to squask the carbon or flass down on to the area in question with some sort of permeable peal ply to force he glue through and allow any excess to be removed easily.

(I Used to build carbon boats!)

Thanks for the advice, I've done it using Glassfibre, it's not the prettiest job around but it's functional - seems like the valve is well stuck in there now, I've painted over it so it doesn't look too bright but as it's inside and under the airbox it can't be seen anyway.
