With a 10 week old baby, I sensibly sold my year old Porsche and looked to jump into an audi avant, or probably a disco 3, much to the amusement of my friends.

But at the LR dealership while test driving the D3, we took the freelander out for a spin as well. What a revelation. The D3 was great, and everything i expected of it, but the Freelander met our needs with about a tonne of metal and £10k to spare.

I never in a million years thought I would buy (or drive) a Freelander - but it is a totally different vehicle to the old one, and thankfully no longer looks gay - hence i am quite looking forward to us owning it. With the baby and dog in the back - it is just the right size for our family - while the D3 would prob be needed if we had another baby, and maybe 2 dogs rather than one, so is prob on the large side for our needs right now.

I think the image of the freelander is set to change for good. Also - I cant see why anyone would get any shit from the public for buying one. It will return at least 30mpg, compared with my last cars porsche 22mpg, tvr 18mpg, rs4 17mpg which are effectively poster cars with very little negative press from the green machine.

I also bought the SE spec. I dont see what the HSE commands over the SE, other than some kind of charcoal air intake filter and an extra £2k.

i had a 2.5 petrol 90 last year and it was great - but only for myself. I can't get the baby in it, otherwise would have looked at a nearly new 90.

the freelander has 20' wading depth - so will see how we get on around the green lanes of hert(ford)shire

Spot on comment about the Freelander 2.

I would not buy the first version but the 2 is fantastic and has everything and more that we need in a family car and dog carrier.

Oh and we did buy the HSE.

Picture of it on Grass Widows profile.

She was not. The X5 and the Navarra that over took us were doing about 110, so he won't be on his own. I reckon the copper was sat on the bridge doing his paperwork just putting the wind up folk, but if a brown envelope lands on the mat in the next week or so its my turn to laugh. I got my 3 points just before xmas irked

It'll teach him next time to swop the Road Angel into the Freelander, obviously Trev isn't the only one he can get into bother with.
