Went on the first part of my Ride Drive course Friday afternoon. I'm a newbie having collected my pre-owned Tuscan S 10 days ago. Having had the car for a few days I was feeling comfortable with it. However, Alan (a serving police officer in central Cheshire) had me driving the car doing speeds around country lanes that I would not have attempted before. More importantly he instilled a feeling of confidence in my car (tempered with sensible caution) that has enhanced my driving experience. I have no connection with Ride Drive other than being a customer, and if you are new to a Tuscan then I would urge you to consider their courses.

Just done the Advanced TVR Handling Skills course with Ride Drive. Excellent use of a day and a tank of fuel. Had an hour or two at an airfield learning the car's handling and how fast the Tuscan can corner before breaking grip. Also some skid pan work (but not in the Tuscan0 - then 6 hours fast road driving with a police officer from West Yorkshire. Like Black Tuscan S says, it really inspires sensible confidence at taking the car upto warp speeds whilst remaining safe. I'd highly recommend Ride Drive.
I've gone the whole hog and booked the 2 day session on the 29/30th May...can't wait.
What I want to check is do you need track day cover for the 2/3 hour session on the track? When I spoke to Mr Policeman they said no I should be ok...but if they want me to lose the car at speed to see how it handles...I kind of want to know I'm covered!

I'm insured through Sunninghill. I called them before booking with Ride Drive and explained I would be taking the car to an airfield as part of the course. They told me they consider it to be an 'extension to a track day' so I was covered under the track day insurance part of my policy, but there would be a £1000 excess if anything got bent. No extra charge for this, but they make a note of where and when you are doing the course for their record. I'd therefore advise you to check/notify your insurer. Also, your instructor for the day is NOT covered to drive your car, other than 3rd party under any motor policy they hold as a private individual. If you allow them to drive your pride and joy (and I did!), its at your own risk.

I researched insurance for doing an airfield day with 1stlotus (similar to ride drive but cheaper
). Apparently they can't deny a claim if its on an airfield as long as you aren't airside (i.e. planes landing in your area) as its no different to parking the car at heathrow. Where I did my handling course (North Weald), they actually use the tarmac as a market on the weekend, which I can't seem them being able to deny liability for either. If you ring them though, they will probably start wriggling and trying to say you are not covered.
