I recently bought a 2004 Disco Td5 and it's now due its 36,000 mile service. This is our second Disco Td5 and I did all the routine servicing on the first one myself, at least from the time it ceased to be my company car and became my own responsibility to maintain.

The thing is, the current car is under warranty until March so I thought I'd better have a dealer stamp in the book. However, I was amazed at the prices quoted when I rang around. The first dealer's price was £406 and the second £478 (or £448 without an oil flush). Even indepedndent specialist Frogs Island wanted £382. Bearing in mind that the 36k service doesn't even require the gearbox and axle oils changing, this struck me as expensive. My inclination is to sod the dealer stamp and do it myself, as before. However, I'd be interested to know if I'm just a skinflint and out of date with garage prices or would others agree that this seems pricey?

That does seem a bit steep. Do you no anyone with a garage who will stamp your book? IIRC any garage can service your disco as long as they use Land Rover products there must be a garage near you willing to do this. Are you a member of a local club who can point you in the right direction?

My Freelander is comming up for its 1st service ,i had to reach for the smelling salts
a whopping £475 at a Main Dealer ,£378 at a Small independent (Bucks ).God knows what your paying for its only done 7k ,no doubt the hire of the ladder to stand on, to service it.I did ask why it was so expensive? a stoney silence prevailed. I have owned Audi's ,TVR's and i have excepted the Labour charges before, but this is a joke. Must be a British thing.

Yup. yes

My missus recently paid 500 quid to have a 24000 mile service done on her '04 TD4 Freelander. She only did it for the potential warranty/resale issues in the future.

I could have my Esprit serviced back at the factory for less than the glorified oil change on her Freelander. Plain daft pricing.

Try the dealer in Monmouth if you live near there. They are much much cheaper for som reason. Will also lone you a car to explore the local country.

What the? Just had the 1st service done at main dealer on my Range Rover Sport £330, how the hell can a freelander be so much??

Oh & just to add this was in Ascot, where every other car seems to be a Land Rover!
