If anyone could give me some info on what may be wrong, I would appreciate it.

When I turn the computer on, the monitor doesn't detect the computer is booting, so it doesn't do anything or goes to sleep. If the monitor does detect the computer is on, it will either (1) display a matrix type screen with lots of strange stuff going down (this happens during bios before it gets to the winxp loading screen) or (2) boot up like normal > get to the desktop > load startup items > 20 seconds after, it would just flick off/display a black screen? I switched the pc over to another lcd monitor in the house, but I still get the same problem.

Am I right in thinking this could be down to the video card or possibly the cpu over heating?

(is morpheus trying to contact me)

I had a similar problem the other week, but I didn't get anything at all up, my computer would run for a bit then freeze, until it got to the point that when I switched it on and nothing at all would come up, so the monitor wouldn't switch on. In the end I had to reset the computer by taking the ram out(I didn't loose anything), but it could be a number of things and would recomend removing the ram as a last resort, try the recovery disk, but read about it carefully first.

Had a similar problem a month or so ago with a friends machine, try puling and replacing the graphics car ans see what you get; turned out to be a fried card, which locked up as soon as it tried to do anything over than VGA.

Thanks Chris & Jim!

I woke up, turned it on, has been working fine all day!

Even though it seems ok now, I'm going to start with getting some new ram, then possibly moving onto a new graphics card.

If the problem still persists, I will replace the motherboard, and maybe the cpu.

Jinx, I beleive so. I must have taken the blue pill, I woke up in the morning not able to remember what had happened last night other than me seeing what the pictures above show, and hearing a knock at the door shortly after.

Maybe you woke up out of the matrix? And you posted to PH while jacked in? It's possible with a username like that.
