Hi All - Advice please.

I have a N reg Chim 4.0L and it is currently at a nearby workshop being resprayed. It has been sat there for 6 weeks and the battery is flat. How best do I get her going again because I know the battery is a bit*h to get at. Will a simple push start do the trick or will this damage the mechanics? Advise Please!!

I have push started mine in the past, with help as it's not the easiest car to jump behind the wheel of when on the move! Otherwise check under the bonnet to see if you have a positive terminal connection which allows you to connect jump leads without taking out the battery.

Good luck

If the battery is completely flat then a push start will not work as you will need enough power available to run the ECU, injectors, fuel pump, coil etc. If the fuel pump primes then there may be enough power to push start it or you should be able to get some jump leads to the battery.

Jump leads best option. Then take it out for a drive so the battery recharges.

How do I connect up to the battery with jump leads when the battery is buried within the passenger foot well?

Um... crawl in the foot well and clip the leads on ?

Probably the easiest way is to place another battery on the ground alongside the car then the leads should reach. A good tool for this situation is one of the portable power packs that you can get in Halfrawds etc. Contains a modest battery with some leads attached.

If you have a look in the footwell the carpet just pulls out to reveal the battery (possibly a small plastic box covering it). Once removed, you can jump start her.

In my experiance, once the battery has gone flat you will be forever recharging it!!!

Best bet is to bite the bullet and charge it for now and then go and buy a new one and replace it.
Make sure you buy a good quality battery which is suited for the car.

DO NOT BUY CHEAP OR YOU WILL BE REPLACING IT VERY SOON AFTER PUTTING IT IN.

And yes changing the battery is and absolute bitch I have done it twice on mine.

If you do take it out remember to put some underseal over the bolts that hold the battery box in place afterwards or you will end up with water coming in all around your electrics, especially at this time of year.
