Youngest Cerb Drivers?

Hey

I was just looking at a nice Cerb S6 on the PH classfieds, it got me wondering what the average age of Cerb owners are?

I always assumed for insurance reasons my first TVR (still a few years away) would be a Chim 4.0, how does the Cerb compare insurance wise. I'm only 25! Any advice?

"Only" 25.... dear oh dear.....

Had my first Chimaera 400 at 25, Cerb at 4.2 26, BMW E39 M5 at 28, and Chim 450 at 29.

Full no claims, clean licence from day 1, car parked on drive until we built a garage around the time of the M5.

Chim400 - £480 - 12k per annum
Cerb 4.2 - £520 - 12k per annum
M5 - £1080!!! - 12k per annum
Chim 450 - £640 - 6k per annum, unlimited trackday cover.

Depends on what insurer you go with and how clean your licence is, plus with many it will help to be able to show progression in cars - IE that you haven't leapt from a 850cc Smart car into a Cerbera! I have also done a couple of driving courses over the years, which some insurers have liked, others ignored. Assuming all of the above stack up, there's nowt stopping you at 25!

Edited to add - don't forget the postcode lottery - when we moved out here my insurance HALVED on my Saab Aero, the BMW was just preposterous, and I asked when I bought the Cerb what it would have cost at my old postcode in a nice patch of Brum - £3200!!!!

I had just turned 26 when I bought my 4.2.

Most places wanted upwards of £1500 a year fully comp, and then Tesco, of all places, offered me £600 Fully comp, protected.

Shop around, you'll find something reasonable.

Of course, it all depends also on where you live, what miles you do etc etc etc etc. So you never know til you phone up & ask.

I was 25 when I bought my 4.2 Cerb, insured with A-Plan for just over £800, thats with a clean license both me and my wife as drivers and we live in the lowest risk area possible. Oh yes my wifes the main driver, I'm just a named driver and she has 4 points but is older than me.

i bought my 4.2 cerb when i was 22, cost me 1600 on insurance!

there is a 19 year old on here i think with one...

My lad paid that for his first car - a Clio 1.2 at 17 and we live in a cheap area.

Like Tim, I aimed to be a TVR owner at 22... however, now im 21 and stuck on this course for another year, that is looking rather unlikely.

I'm 27, and whilst not yet an owner, I've got a quote from directline for £600 for a Cerb.

bloody hell guys... I may surprise myself but I hadn't even imagined prices could be that cheap.

I've got 3 pts (bloody "red" light) and full protected NCB, however the insurance on my Corrado is still £800!! Postcode is a nightmare tho, too many tea leaves in Manchester!

What would you say is the best intro to TVR ownership then, engines aside, a Chim or a Cerb ? I love both, but would prefer a hardtop roof!

Also, how essential do you think it is to garage these beauties?
