Amazing 996 Performance!!
Discussion
I took my 996 on a run of approx 250 miles today round the M25 up M40 to Warwickshire.
The performance today was amazing and not the norm,I wasn't looking forward to a long run at all.I filled the car with Optimax and reset the trip computer to zero in all fields.
I was driving at between 65-80mph all the way with only one stop on my way to my destination.
On my return I noticed my ododmeter was going to hit 5000 miles,,,being so so sad I fumbled for my camera so I could record the date of this to work out how far I go etc,,,,,SAD!!!
After the tedious background story,,,the picture I took revealed my average MPG for this 250 miles trip
an AMAZING 34.5 MPG...This cannot be achieved like BMW mileage meters for those that don't have one,it is as it says average MPG.

It's fine to max out at Bruntingthorpe, but you have to admit this is an unusual Porsche performance post, considering 320bhp & 285 rear tyres I think it would be ok for a hot hatch let alone a 996.
Ready for huge stick guys,,,bring it on!!!

Paul,
Glad to hear you had a nice leisurely drive home.
I chased a brand new black Vanquish from the factory to the M25, needless to say I didnt get 34.5 mpg.
Old chap driving and a rather fit young lady next to him. Im sure she was with him despite the car, it must be his personality

That'll be Dr Ulrich Bez and his wife. That's no way to talk about the AM CEO. We all met him and his family yesterday, prior to our group. Afterwards, he gave us a Vanquish exhaust demonstration/acoustic experience in the car park. A Top Bloke who is a Doctor of Engineering. Ted can we award honourary PH memberships?

I second all of that!

Daz,
Has the Dr got mad professor grey hair? If not it wasnt him.
Paul, it was interesting if nothing else. Just think, when the car comes out and doesnt have the stupid clock in the radio and a sports exhaust option, you can say that was us.
Surely you would have preferred Sarah going home in a Porsche?

Yes that's him.
Here's a few facts on the man from the following link:
www.pebblebeachconcours.net/who.htm
"Dr. Ulrich Bez is the Chief Executive Officer of Aston Martin Lagonda. His career in the automotive industry spans three decades. Prior to his current role he was responsible for Porsche design and development and the introduction of the 911 Turbo, the Carrera RS, the 968 and the 993. He has also been head of product design and development at BMW and Daewoo and an independent business adviser to AAB and the Ford Motor Company. Dr. Bez has an Engineering Doctorate from the University of Stuttgaart and he has written more than 40 scientific publications. His research work on side impact protection and aluminum structures earned him a prestigious NHTSA award."
Definite honourary PH material.

Dr Bez, had the bright red AM DB7 Vantage equiped with chromed wheels & matching red brake calipers on a 52 plate.
Such a leary car, that you have clearly got to be the main man to be allowed to order one in that spec.
So Daz how is that for MPG ???
The Dr had a black 03 vanquish with dark red interior yesterday.
As for mpg that is appalling, it demonstrates you should be driving a ford Ka. My experiences of the trip to Warwick involved a cross country route using A roads, maxing out fourth gear so often I lost count. If I had Derestrictor's way with words I'd have done a 1000 word trip report.
cheers
DAZ
thanks for your concern Grant!!
As for order in,,,no way...too expensive,,too cluttered styling, every styling feature from past models stuck on a stubby car,,,I don't see it being too succesful as it is not exactly a cheap A***n as expected,,plus the 2 seat only thing will alienate a lot of buyers....Are you in ?
