Talk Talk broadband
Discussion
Hi folks,
My parents have talk talk broadband and i've been using it all week. Yesterday when I arrived, it'd gone down and wouldn't connect to the internet. (They use the Philips wireless router).
It has been down apparently all day yesterday through to today! Now having rung talk talk and getting passed around in circles, the problem seems to be the 'SYNC' light on the fascia of the router isn't lit. This would indicate a problem with either the settings of the router (haven't been altered) or the actual phone line itself (phone works fine).
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing it?
Cheers

Login to the routers little web interface and see if it has logging available so you can see what it's trying to do. If it does, reboot it and log back in and keep refreshing the log. Eventually it will fail at something.
Try swapping the micro filters over, they can and will fail. If you have a spare ADSL modem / router plug it in and see if it connects, again, routers can and will fail in the oddest ways.
The thing to keep in mind is that whilst the ADSL system requires the phone line... a fault on the ADSL system will not necessarily mean that the telephone line is faulty. It isn't indicative of anything but rip the micro filter off the line (assuming it's a little box you can plug in the wall jack) and plug the phone in; if you hear whistling and/or static on the line that can indicate that the ADSL carrier is active, however a fair few people have heard nothing and had working ADSL.

I might have had the same problem with my TalkTalk broadband yesterday, as I could not connect to the internet all day yesterday and it was fine the previous day.
I checked and tried everything, I unplugged and then replugged everything, rebooted a few times, tried the second filter I have and also unistalled the Modem (Thomson) Software and reinstalled it, but still to no avail.
Maybe there is a problem with TalkTalk, as it just kept saying no dial tone. Anyone out there know anything or am I just being a complete oxygen thief??

Bearing in mind the weather conditions yesterday it could be a wiring fault between them and the exchange. Might be worth finding out from the neighbours if they have broadband and if they have a problem.
I know when I had a problem with AOL and my router wouldn't connect, I tried my ADSL modem that wouldn't work. Spoke to neighbour his Tiscali was down as well.
Turned out a BT box locally had been hit by lightening and blown the broadband connections. Subsequently turned out it had blown both our routers too

Probably no help at all but my father uses talktalk broadband with a router and has no end of troubles. Try dialing in just using a modem and see if this solves your problem. From what you have said it does seem to be a router issue but this will at least confirm it. Of course it might be Talktalk being a bit cr@p.
Post up if you find a solution to this, my Dad would love to know!

Well after the phone line going down totally for the best part of the weekend. I arrived here today, did a manufacturers factory reset on the router, set it all back up again and hey presto... just like magic it worked!
I can only guess the problem lay in a combination of the router going potty and the adverse weather!
