there is a guy on ebay, kerso, that does good prices on canon stuff but if POTN members get a little bit extra off. he is highly regarded on POTN and canon lenses are covered by an international warrenty (yes they are imported). I'm thinking about getting a new prime and he quoted me these prices.

100mm £242 & 10 P+P
135mm F2 L £510 & 10 P+P

if there is anything you are wanting to buy thats canon I would certainly consider him. just got to convice the wife that a 135 f2 is more important than a holiday lol

just had a look and they are good prices. was thinking of getting a new lens.

now do i go for the 70 - 300 IS or the 70 - 200 f4L? similar prices from this seller. i've got a 70 - 300 usm to sell if i buy a new lens so the cost shouldn't be too bad.

although very tempted by the 100 - 400 f4L IS.

Blimey is that the f2.8 macro poah (100mm)?

Thats a very good price if it is. I got a 70-200 2.8 IS from URGalaxy on Ebay while back and that was very good too. Worth mentioning it wasn't a Canon warranty, I think it was just a retailer warranty - probably the same with Kerso?

Even so, those are awesome prices, I was considering the 100mm macro lens, that just makes the prospect more tempting!

ARGH! Stop it!

Out of interest is that a 100% crop? extension tubes? what body?

Im gonna do some photography for my sister, she makes jewellery and I'm thinking this lens would be worth getting, and at £250 its a no-brainer, but I'm not sure what to expect in terms of how big a ring/earring would be in the frame (on a 5d btw).

70-200 doesn't focus anywhere near close enough
24-105 ain't great for close up
50mm haven't tried it yet, will chuck a close up filter on it too, but it'll neve rbe as good as the proper lens.
Old sigma 70-300 macro keeps giving me Error 99 so I'm gonna get rid of that, only bought because it was cheap 2nd hand.

I fancy the 100mm as a people lens too.

hmmm.....how do I sneak that past the wife?!

oh man thats good!

Do you use the lens much for non-macro stuff? I've heard that quality wise it is a superb lens - do you have any issues with yours?

Thanks

If they'd made it with a 77mm front element, and painted a red ring on it, they could've sold it as an "L" and slapped another £200 on it...it's that good.

hehe What he's NOT telling you is that where he lives the bugs are all 3 feet long and those shots were actually taken from the safety of 40 feet away using the 100-400 with an extender! Lighting provided by a small array of 580EXs.

I'm really, really not jealous at all, honestly. No way. Not at all. As I keep telling myself.

I'm back in the UK now so it'll be all the usual boring stuff from now on though.

I'm reluctant to say this as I've heard nothing but good things about Ian when things go right, but I feel I have to...if you're committed to a purchase then great. If, however, something goes awry, then be prepared for the most intransient individual I have ever come across. I got no end of abuse and insinuation from him when I had to pull out of a 1D purchase last year due to Paypal and time being against both of us (something to do with PP not accepting the card for that amount without about a week's notice - not his fault but he was an arse about it)

I had ordered a 50mm 1.8 at the same time and it came through fine, but I will never do business with the man again.

had looked at that but was wondering if the extra £££ was worth it?
