Funny Noise With Clutch
Discussion
Hello everyone. on these cold an damp mornings, when I first engage the clutch I get a funny noise whose pitch increases in frequency when I lift the pedal and then stops. Put the foot down again does the same. by the third or fourth time it is OK. What could it be? Can it be resolved cheaply? How do I hide my embarassment for the first 2 minutes? Thanks in advance
Could be the thrust bearings. I've only had this go on the Saab and it was absolutely shot within about a month or so of daily driving. So if you only drive the Tiv infrequently you've probably got a couple of months in it.
If they are opening it up to replace the bearing you might as well get the clutch plates done because the bulk of the cost is usually labour.

It sounds like it may be the clutch release bearing getting a bit dry.
You could try jacking the car up and squirting a drop of oil on the clutch release bearing and see if it cures the problem.
You should be able to see the release bearing through the hole in the bottom of bell housing.
Just be careful you don't get oil on the clutch it's self.
Cheers
Paul

paul,Comma,s spray grease would also be ideal for this it is very fluid till the solvent goes of then its a light sticky grease, spray the release arm pivot as well,as paul says do not spray loads keep away from the hole in the pressure plate as the fluid will leak on to the centre driven plate (not good)this may just be enough to lube the balls in the release bearing possibly stoping the sqeak.
