Just got it home
Discussion
Well went round to friends and started Wedge up, first time for 3 months, and started straight away
Had to wipe mould of the steering wheel and seats.
So any decent leather protector that would stop mould forming that anyone can recomend
And what type of cover do people use for storing car under, mine currently has an outdoor breathable one, but car is still getting damp inside, but maybe it had blown off and then been rained on
Was thinking of those Perambulator Garages that fold down, but wondering if any companies do a small one due to limited space. Anyone got one or had experience ?
Just needs a good clean and polish, tax and maybe even try and use it tuesday night if I can fix the blower switch in time

When I first got my Wedge in 1993 I had a house with no garage so had one of the parambulator type "up and over" covers. When I moved to Somerset 6 years later and had the car serviced by Peninsula (when they were an up and coming independant) Richard Smith was of the opinion that it was because of this that the chassis was in such good condition as it kept the weather off but condensation wasn't a problem.
Can't remember where I got it from but think it cost about £300?

how long did the perambulator last then ? Was it a canvas one or a modern plastic ?
Cheers

In the high winds last night my gazebo turned itself into a sail and flew away, taking with it the frame but thankfully missing the car completely
To be fair, it had stood up very well to date but the 100mph gusts yesterday were sadly too much for the frame to cope.
My good lady wife's old mini lives in the car port and has survived very well bearing in mind they rust at the sight of a glass of water.

It was getting very tatty and a bit rotten around the bottom after 6 years when I moved house. I did get another one when I was in Somerset and that was pretty much in the same state after 3 years - damper climate in Somerset than High Wycombe. Both were heavy canvas - I used to give them the occassional coat of tent waterproofer and they were fine apart from eventually rotting along the bottom edges due (I suppose) to contact with the ground. They are made to measure so if you do get one allow plenty for the wing mirrors - the first one I had was a bit tight and I used to sometimes catch the mirror with one of the metal poles when I was closing the cover so I had the second one made one foot wider.
Hope that helps
Steve
THanks Steve, a lot of them sem to be made out of double layer plastic now , so maybe would not rot, but probably not as strong as canvas. I know what you mean about the width of the mirrors, it makes them quite wide
and need a 7 foot one to clear easily which then takes up the path as well as drive

I saw an impressive cover material demo'd at the NEC last year. Man made waterproof but breathable stuff. They had a rig which showed moisture going through one way, but couldn't be forced back through even under quite high pressure.
I'll see if I can google it. They were offering bike cover and anglers awnings. maybe too pricey in car dimensions.

NFP. Wouldn't the plastic ones suffer from condensation?
I had one of the fold over canvas types when I first had my wedge. You need to keep a regular check on the car though because some local oik's cat decided that it was nice and comfy under there and the roof panel would make a handy scratching post.
At least it brought the car gifts, although I'm not sure that decomposing mice were the best things for the paint job.
Now, because of stupid restrictions at my new place the poor girl is having to face only her 2nd ever winter open to the elements. Think I'm going to have to move by next winter.
