Hi,

A few friends, and friends of friends, are attending this event. It's an 8 day tour of Europe covering 5000km (7-14th July). The route is designed to use the best driving roads on the continent (in France, Italy and Switzerland) and includes a stop-over in Monte Carlo.

This is essentially a scaled down and more tasteful Gumball 3000. The cost to enter is around £2000 per car which includes eurotunnel/ferry crossings, hotels (breakfasts included) and the meal in Monte Carlo. This is very cheap compared to the gumball which is nearly £30,000 this year.

The website explains it all in a lot more detail...
www.furball5000.co.uk
www.furball5000.co.uk/alpine/itinerary.php

We are so far taking the following:

1999 Diablo VT Roadster
Diablo VT
Gallardo SE or 997 S
Gallardo Spider
Gallardo or Murcielago LP640
355 Spider
Porsche 993
and Porsche 911

There may well be more to follow and this doesn't include the 10 or so cars listed on the website already (TVRs etc.) It would be great if any of you were interested in coming - I've heard only very good things about this event!

Thanks,
DP

I'm only a TVR owner I'm afraid but did do this event last year and had a fantastic time. The route covered some of the best roads I've ever driven on and the people on the trip also made it - absolutely no snobbery unlike some that attend events such as the Gumball etc.
If you're thinking about it all I can say is do it!

Agreed. But the comparison with Gumball or any other***ball type event is not appropriate and, IMO, not wanted as it gives the wrong impression of the tour. We brits get enough grief in northern France as it is!

I did the '06 tour too - will be doing the '07 Alpine Tour in a '77 Espada. It will be 30 years since the old girl has been 'home'.

Edited to add: Hi Danchpress - have you seen the movie from the '06 Tour yet?

Yeah I was on the FB5K to, albeit not driving (maybe this year).
Anyway, just wanted to back up the other chap, its DEFINATELY NOT like a mini gumball. Its a tour, and a laugh, there isnt any racing, just 'spirited' driving at your own pace.

Phil:
You can show them what a proper Espada looks like !

Hi Danchpress,

I guess you are a friend of Tristan (1999 Diablo Roadster) as I texted him the details and he replied saying he was going on the Alpine with his Diablo and a couple of Gallardo friends. It was adrenaline packed fun. I am going on the Viking Furball this year. You will definitely enjoy yourself.

It sounds like everyone who's been on it has enjoyed it which is good. It also doesn't sound like a deathtrap, which is even better!

James P - Sorry, I only mentioned the Gumball to say that this looks like a more tasteful tour, but I can understand why I shouldn't have drawn the comparison!

Shoebag - hi, yes I am a friend of Tristan, and we've decided that we need to get more people interested in this! It's a shame your doing the Viking; is there no way of persuading you to change your mind?!

Bosscerebera - I've had a look at the trailer for last years but it didn't give much away...Anyway, looking forward to seeing the Espada!

Thanks for the response everyone although it doesn't sound like I've done a very good job at recruiting!

Not sure about recruiting but you found a number of previous entrants.

You won't be disapointed. Best driving week of my life. Was all the better for the great company who attended. Everybody got on, no cross words, well maybe one, but I highly recomend it! All being well, I hope to do another tour this year!
