I've got a few AVI files that are playing (in Windows media player) in "fast forward" for some reason... WTF is going on?
Any suggestions?

I had exactly the same thing on my pc at work...IT support came up, had a look, tried a few things that didn't work then decided that my pc needed to be rebuilt.

I ended up with a brand new pc.....and you've guessed it....

the same problem!

Sounds like incorrect version of the codec. Or possibly incompatibility of the player nad the codec. Have you tried a different player or updating your codecs?

Gspot is your friend ... run this proggy, point it at your video file it will tell you what audio and video codecs are needed to run it correct and also if you have them installed. If its not playing correctly google for the codec that Gspot tells you the file is encoded with, download and install it and your problems may well vanish.

Excellent stuff there....I had a video that was playing too fast...and was stuck for ages trying to work out WTF....Thanks again...

The problem seems to stem from where the video format on the DVD was recorded in long play as opposed to SP/HQ that you can record on on some DVD recorders...

UPDATE ...I downloaded the codec needed which was great...but mine`s still doesn`t work....

Try using VLC or GOMPLAYER instead of WMP, much better viewers.
