gearbox probs

hi i got a mr2 mk2 1990. i cant use fith gear coz when i accelerate it pops out so cant use it at all is that a linkage problem or a gearbox problem 2nd also grinds

sounds like your synchro has gone, rebuild time....

I feel your pain, i had mine rebuilt last week. (i couldn't select 6th, turns out a hub had shifted)

I had an old MR-2 with this problem.
second hand gearbox from a breaker like Douglas Valley is the answer, or else expensive rebuild

As a temp solution I cut a bit of wood to size (dont laugh) that held it in 5th, was fine on the motorway doing that.

i may have some wood you can have , we can cut it to shape ! custom job like.

Mine was an MX5 gearbox (being an MX5 an' all)
£100 to take Gbox off car and refit after
£100 to strip down and rebuild gearbox
£80 for a new hub (your parts will be different cost obviously - but probably quite a bit more than £80 if your synchro has gone)
£11 for new oil
VAT

Total £340 odd

Unfortunately, yours will prob be quite a bit more in parts.

my gearbox placeis based in Stourport in the midlands (01562 752 651 - call him for advise if you want, tell him greg with the MX recommended them)
