Stuck Steering Wheel

Any tips for steering wheel removal, I have had the them off on most of my tivs but this one just wont budge, need to get it off to centre it up and to sort out the crap job someone made fitting the leven dash, squinty dials and the hazard switch/warning panel has pushed back.

I've had to use a 3 legged puller to get them off in the past, about £15 from Halfords I think. Wrap the steering wheel boss in tape though as it's easy to damage.

Its a Vauxhall steering column that uses a special extractor tool.
I have one which i can loan if you are desperate.

I wouldn't use a 3 legged puller. I have the original TVR steering wheel in the cupboard with a neat little bend in the top edge where I used a puller.
I got it off in the end with it but if there are other options available try them first.

Are you *sure* you need to remove it? All those problems sound like things that could be sorted without taking the steering wheel off the column.

You should centre the wheel on the track rods not the steering wheel boss. Can you get the wheel off the boss leaving the boss in place? 6 hex head screws.
Otherwise I've used a three-legged puller but NOT on the wheel - on the boss - to avoid damage.

Tried that too, ended up pulling the boss all out of shape, hence resorting to pulling the steering wheel! As Grifter rightly says, take off the wheel using the 6xhex screws

I took mine off not long back after some wrestling....

The trick is to unscrew the hub nut leaving 2 or 3 turns on (to protect you when it does let go!). Pull your seat right forward and put your knees under the wheel. Force your knees up toward your chest and with a hammer give the column nut a good sharp tap. You can afford to be quite brutal. The column is a crushable item, but tip I got from Dulford auto was "You'd have to be a real animal to damage the column". Mine took a couple of spirited whacks and then came away no problem. The wheel will flex some with the force from your knees.
