Does anybody have the slightest clue why it doens't work? I downloaded/acquired a file and simply doesn't work in any of the media players I have.

I know its a long shot but does anyone have an idea what it may be?

Thanks.

You could try renaming the extension from .avi to .wmv - it may work in media player then

Agreed. This player is fantastic. I've a few files that were corrupt and refused to play properly in anything else but VLC plays them fine.

I've got VLC and it doesn't work in that.

Changed the file name and it doesn't work.

Anymore ideas?

Is it an AVI at all? Maybe try renaming to .ZIP... worth a shot.

Run it through this tool

www.headbands.com/gspot/

it should tell you what type of file it is and what codec you will need to play it.

Thanks for that. The program says the that the file type is unknown. Also says that mime type is unknown as well.

That means it's buggered

Either the headers are corrupt, the file itself is totally corrupt, or it just isn't a video file.

What file type is it - Right click on it then properties and then click on the Summary tab and if it's there tell me what the video compression type is.

What's the bit after the dot in it's name Eg. .avi, .mpeg, or .vob

Do you have all the correct Codec installed? Try G Spot to find out what codec it is.

Rob - try googling for G-Spot, it'll tell you what codecs the file requires.

If Gspot can't identify the codec used, the file is knackered.
