LS7 conversion: part 2
Discussion
Jeff Schwartz just sent us the complete package, several boxes of parts! All we need for the SBC to LS7 conversion. Looks great!
I attach some pics:
The transaxle is a from a Porsche GT2, Jeff fabricated the adaptor and the flywheel, great work:
All accessories adapted and installed by Jeff:
Jeff did the exhaust system with Spectrum 5 Racing and had it powdercoated:
Kit also includes fuel system parts, dry sump tank and lines, electrical system, airbox, gauges and senders,...
Cant wait to start it first time! I will keep posting...

I haven't even put 1K mls. on my SBC yet and I am elated with what I have seen from the motor so far but I must say, all this talk of LS motors is getting me going!
If you ask nicely you can even get them in black!!
I like to see a bit of mature type bling under the hood. Even I have to draw the line at too much BLACK! After all is said and done I like to think of myself as a "less is more" type of guy at the end of the day.

Awesome - are they the road silencers on them?
How long do you think before it's actually running?
I hope you have a video camera

If I am not wrong, I think they are Edelbrock silencers.
Now we have to fabricate the rear support for the transaxle, cant use the original Ultima one (designed for the Getrag) because the new box is longer. But we will do a similar design as the original support. Should be approx. 2 weeks.
Good news is that the oil filter just clears the chassis so we dont need to weld. Also the front of the engine just clears the back wall, so no re-work of the engine mounts (adapters supplied by Jeff) was necessary.
Then the accessories, mainly cooling and oil system. This is most demanding now. The dry sump tank will be fixed to the left side of the rear wall (replacing the water swirl pot, which probably has to move to the right or we will leave it out completely). Not much space left then for all the water pipes and mainly the oil-water heat exchanger which we want to use instead of the oil cooler. But this is more a matter of planning now and time, for sure we find a way to get everything in. Can take a month, though.
By the way, does anybody know whether the LS7 needs an oil cooler and oil thermostat and how to install it (into the oil lines to the drysump tank?)
The fuel system should be ok as it is (we already had a return line installed on the SBC), just need to replace fuel pumps and regulator.
Electrics should also be straight forward, Jeff supplied the complete harness. Only the integration of the Ultima A/C is still unknown to us, we will see later.
Whilst doing that we will replace the front brakes with 356mm 6 pot, and also get an improved version of the sequential shift which was optimised for the GT2 box, will now be mounted directly on the box and use just one cable, and will enable even faster shifts.
Would estimate 1 to 2 months in total.
Got a video camera of course (though I have no possibility to put videos on the net, dont have an own web site...)
