Well this is what I've been beavering away at for the past few weeks........

A luscious Toyota 2.5 1JZ orginally a twin turbo but converted to BIG single. I've been doing all the wiring & work myself & she's ready to be fitted up later next week. Whilst I was at it I tidied her up too with some paint.

This thing should make 500bhp & maybe a bit more after some tweakage, fitted with a Garret GT30-40R Turbo, externally wastegated yes thats right straight out the bottom of the engine bay

This puppy is gonna be one loud beasty bounce

Cant't wait to see what this baby goes like thumbup

Oh & this is how clean this engine is inside, not bad for 60k engine!

Looks good, but it's going to be LOUD isn't it? Are you going to be allowed to take that on any track, anywhere?

I might have to have some sort of muffling device for low db noise venue, but that'll just be a removable jobbie. Just for sheer entertainment value I might have to it pointing out from the front wheelarch for maximum flamage

Hiya

Well the 2.5tt 1JZ is A cheaper to buy & revs quite a bit higher than the 3.0L so ultimate output is quite similar, its also an almost direct fit for my car, its simpler too without the VVT. The turbo spec was blagged from one of the Japanese D1 cars its an AR/70 but has some aerodynamic mods to a standard spec one. The exhaust side is quite small for low down spool up & being externally wastegated should keep exhaust restrictons at bay. Someone else in Auz has the same tubby as this on the same engine & makes 310bhp at 3k rpm so it should be fairly lively!

These rev to 7500 stock, but can go to 8'ish without any issues. Regular peak boost (1.2-1.4bar) is planned to be before 4k rpm though the turbo will go way more within its efficiency range.

It's going in this

It fires!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its alive bounce

Have at last susses the relay system to the fuel pump & bits, it works at last. Though still have to plumb up the exhaust & external wastegate, intercooler pipes & a few monor bits. Otherwise not much left to do

I found on my big turbo setup, with the w/g vented out underneath the engine bay (ie straight downwards) I couldn't hear it over the exhaust; mine now runs 2" pipe from the w/g to just behind the drivers side front wheel. With the window down it sounds like someone starting a chainsaw in your right ear when you cross 4000rpm and it reaches full boost evil

Sounds great, would like to see/hear some video of it. Do you know what the dimensions are of the compressor wheel on that turbo? I run a Garrett T67 on my 3.0, which I think is a little larger than yours, with a 0.68ar, and I find throttle response in the boost region very good. Yours should be very responsive even with the smaller capacity. Only downside with mine is that the transition from off-boost to on-boost is quite sudden, it gains about 200bhp across a 250rpm band, which makes traction in the lower gears a rare commodity . . . I could probably smooth it out with some careful mapping of the boost control solenoid but I quite like that sudden kick up the arse. I don't suppose wheelspin will be a problem in your field though!
