personaly i don't like the idea of having to go around the 'ring' for 24 hours...but i like the idea of an F1 car better

but idk how i should go about doing it...

it'll be 8 hours for the entire race on times 3 with b-spec on, but i'll never win with just b-spec

so basically wat i'm asking is, do i HAVE to sit downstairs and baby sit the thing for 8 hours, or can i put it on super hards and leave it alone for an extended amount of time?

also...i plan on doing it in a 1048 hp toyota GT-ONE race car (adjusted to the 'ring' of course), what kind of competition am i gonna' face??

If your "B-Spec Bob" is up to it and you have set the car up correctly you should just be able to leave him to get on with it and win. It will drop out of 3x speed after the first pit-stop, so what I did when I completed all the 24h races was to set it going on 3x when I went to bed, set it back to 3x when I got up in the morning, again just as I was about to leave the house to go to work and again when I got home. The race wouldn't have much to go by then and would finish mid-evening.

I did find that B-spec liked his brakes set up differently to me. Too much front bias and he tended to spin so 10 front and 10 rear was about the most he could handle, whereas I have something like 19 front and 15 rear.

I did something along those lines. Putting in a few quick stints myself when I had the chance to help 'B-spec driver' on his way.

Yes, start the race yourself, and play to you get bored, then next pit stop switch to "Bespectacled Bob" or whatever his name is, and go to bed. 8 hours later you should be about 9 hours into the race LOL, check your position, if you want to make a bit of time drive a couple of laps, then off to work, when you get in you'll be about 16 hours into it...same again, check position - if all is hunky-dory then sod it, otherwise a quick stint, and enjoy.

Yes, it's dull, but the endurance events are ok - at least it gives some limited scope for tactics (speed / stamina with tyres, IYSWIM).

So, hold on, you're saying that you can't leave your PS2 alone all day whilst you do something else?

Go for the racing hard tires on front, super hard on rear (well thats what I do anyway), you should get enough laps in to get a decent lead before pitting.

I might have to do this in the next couple of days as I've not yet, I couldn't be bothered either...but yeah, just leave it switched on while you play with your hoop and stick in the road or something, it'll be less dull than playing PS2 solidly for 24hours!
