Big Belt in Engine - XKR?? Info Required Please
Discussion
Hi
Sorry, I know this is a real numpty question!
I've just bought a V Reg XKR. When I took it for a test drive there was a bit of a squeeling noise (from the engine, not me!). Sounded similar to shen a fan belt is slipping.
The dealer I bought it from said it's becasue 'the big belt in the engine' needs replacing. They are doing this as part of the purchase price before I pick it up.
I was just wondering if this is a 'wear and tear' issue or a sign of some other problem that may be lurking.
Any inof would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Gary

If he refered 'the big belt in the engine' that would be the belt driving the Superchager from the crankshaft.
An easy job so no problem, I think about £50 for the belt, should not take long to change.
I would have thought that should have been sorted on pre delivery.
One tip, join the XK8R Club on www.xkec.co.uk they have a great MEMBERS forum.
Hope you enjoy your 'R' had mine 4+ years now, some extra mods as well.

The supercharger belts are easy to change if you have done them once, there is a spot where the belt has to pass between an idler and the engine thats pretty tight. If you were going to DIY you'd need a generic tensioner tool to release the tensioner.

Thanks for the info.
The dealer has rung me up and told me it's all fixed.
Just need to get it taxed now and I can pick it up and go cruising.
Latest hiccup is that the previous owver had a private plate on it and the V5 hasn' been returned to the dealer yet with the correct reg. Think I can sort it at DVLA in Manchester.
The waiting is killing me!

There was a Jaguar TSB ( tech serv bulletin ), the main drive belt used to squeak, fora number of reasons. They modified the belt, the belt tensioner. In extreme cases you had to check the alignment of the A/C compressor. If you brought the car from a dealer, I would ask them to check if you car is within the range, and if it has been done.
