Going to look at a 996 GT2 in the next couple of days and have been notified by the seller that its had a low speed bump (front corner). The car was shipped out to Porsche's official vehicle body repair centre in London and subsequently repaired, funded by the owner, so no insurance claim involved.

With this in mind and providing the repair is of the highest standard, do you think I should steer clear or remain openminded and make my decision based on the usual condition, mileage and price?

Thanks,

C.

Are you likely to find a GT2 that hasn't had an accident repair???

I'd say if its not HPI registered and you can see the repair invoice, and your happy with thr repair, I wouldn't have a problem.

and give thank the seller for being up front & honest...Always a good sign...But yes, check inv. then give the body shop a call to 'double' check...

Application of a paint depth gauge and some careful inspection shows all the paint on my car to be factory original.
So yes, they do exist.

To answer the OPs original question, If the owner is forthcoming with all the details of the damage, can provide invoices for parts the used and you're happy with the quality of the repair (and if you feel the need, confirmation from the body shop that carried out the repair of what the repair entailed) why not ?

Mine hasn't!

Can't guarantee it will stay that way; all seems a bit slippery at the moment!

Thanks for your opinions guys.

The owner was very willing to explian what had happened once I popped the question re damage. I guess i'll take a look, speak to the Porsche Repair Centre and if the car is as good as I hope, i'll get the local OPC to give it the once over.

If it wasn't an insurance repair, then it was either very minor or, more likely, it happened on track.

I beleive that if it was repaired by an official Porsche body shop then it carries a lifetime warranty. So look at receipts and phone up body shop to confirm work. If legit shouldn't be a problem.

There are many better body shops other than those used by OPCs. If it's been repaired by a high quality paint/repair business then that's what counts.

this should not put you off a car!

most cars will have some form of paint repair in the course of their life, this its not to be confused with a serious repairs (ie written off)

Its a good sign of the owners honesty that has bothered to tell you about it

Won't bother me, just check out the damage from the invoice, you dont get much for £2K nowadays, as long as it looks very good in daylight and is a quality repair, no sweat...

Ironic thing is Porsche dealers will often refuse to buy cars in for stock that have been repaired in their own "approved bodyshops".

Definately something to think about , particularly with the 997 GT2 round the corner.

Not just restricted to Porsche - Ferrari do the same - and since the repair panels seem to (can only?) come in through Maranello, little chance of a non write-off but major shunt being missed...cue big devaluation and much sucking of teeth come partex time....
