When you drive your TVR, do you attract idiots?
Discussion
Having had a couple of close shaves this weekend, thanks to imbeciles on the road who needed to overtake me to boost thier ego. I'm curoius whether I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, or whether it's normal for people to try and prove something when you are out in your TVR?
The icing on the cake came when one git tried to barge his way past using a hatched off section of the road which is there to reduce a dual carriageway into a single lane carriageway, needless to say I was in the single lane. I had to brake and pull to the left (into another hatched area) so that he didnt collect me as he barged past and then I watched in futher amazement, as he proceeded to brake heavily to avoid rear-ending the next car infront. Conditions were dark and wet, so not ideal to overtake anything at the best of times.
All this was made worse by the fact I was in 'Driving Miss Daisy' mode, as i was driving my mother home and I'm not sure she will get in the car again if she thinks everyone is going to try it on.

You will sometimes get the odd Chav/plonker/knobhead trying it on. I have the same problem with my T350C, but then again, I had it 20 years ago with my Jensen Interceptor. Fortunately, most of the attention the T350 gets is very positive and flattering. Lots of smiles, people winding their windows down and encouraging me to drop down a gear and pass them (like I need encouragement!), plus the old chestnut, "what'll it do Mister?"
Just ignore the chav/plonker/knobheads and enjoy the fact that you have got something that is special. Don't let them spoil your enjoyment!

Tailgating in heavy traffic does happen with the kids in hatchbacks - I just move into the inside lane and slow back until they disappear.
I did have a complete $%^&^* in a Merc barge his way in between me in the Sag and Jane in the Cerb on the way through Glasgow last year. Inside lane manouever and with Jane's co-operation redressed the balance, much to his fury. Blew a few kisses in his direction, mouthed "love you too" to his deft hand signals which were becoming more frenzied by the moment and carried on nonchalantly. Judging by his facial colour he proably didn't have too long to live.

For the most part no, in fact I can only remember one incident where someone has driven like a complete prick when I had the car. He was in an RX8 and did a suicidal overtaking manouvre in front of me, similar to what has been described - it was 3 lanes down to 2 and he went all the way down the cross hatching and caused and oncoming car to have to swerve. I had come up behind him fairly swiftly and I had my lights on so I think he might have taken that as a signal to drive like an arse. He then slowed right down at a dual carriageway a few miles ahead, obviously waiting for me to catch up, so I passed him and, surprise surprise, he pulled right behind me as soon as I passed. We had a roundabout coming up so I didn't give it much welly, and couldn't even be bothered to be late on the brakes, so I just slotted it into 2nd, came off the roundabout onto the 2nd part of the dual carriageway and put my foot to the floor. He stayed with me for about 3s until I hit 4000rpm and then it was bye bye - the next time I checked my mirror he was a very small dot

Not really, but I did have some plonker three weeks ago, whilst driving up the M6 decide to undertake me in the middle lane whilst doing 90 in a large traffic line, pull back in front of me into a non existent gap between me and the other car. It was only a Vaxhall Senator. The next time he pulled to the middle lane, I boxed him in and let a decent driver follow me the rest of the way. Some people feel the need to get past you when your not even trying to make a point of speed and agility.

Very, very rarely...but I think this is for 3 reasons:
1. When driving fast, they never catch up in the first place.
2. Even when I'm driving slowly, most chavs know that they can't outpace a TVR so don't bother.
3. When I'm not in a hurry I'd rather let them "blow me away" - they get their story to tell their mates, I avoid any potential incident.
With the odd exception, the usual reaction to my TVR is extremely positive - from youngsters to OAP's and even the majority of the bolt-on brigade want to talk about it, sit in it, ask "what does it do mister?" - they are petrolheads too.

When you drive a Sag there are only two other types of drivers out there. Those that admire and those that are envious.
Even when you want to pull out of a junction the admirers will adjust their speed and direction just to let you out to have a look and the envious ones will accelerate, aim straight at you and be looking out the other window with that "I can't see you face".
Same on the motorway, admirers will change lanes and let you past, envious will change into your lane and slow down.
This happens all the way down the line. They all drive differently when they see the Sag to they would if i was in a Focus or normal car.
God Bless them all, thats what i say as i scream past them at the first available opportunity.

never had a prob with the TAmora. Had lots of grief in an Evo though, that was one of the main reasons I got rid of it!

Ditto.
Had more "unfriendly" moments in my Evo in the first couple of months than I have in my T350 over the last year and a half.
As previously posted, almost always get a positive response...
Interesting. Thanks for the comments.
I never really had any issues when i owned my Evo and Scoobies. But the attention this last weekend was a bit of an eye opener, mainly due to the complete disregard for anybodies safety.
There aren't many TVR's around here (at the moment), so perhaps said muppets took their one and only chance to overtake one and prove something? None of the cars were anything special (Mondeo, Pug & people carrier) so i expect the muppets are gaining much kudos down the pub from their exploits. I almost forgot to mention Mr Honda driver, who after being behind me through a town, executed his overtake and promptly (within 200 yards) pulled off the road and onto his driveway!
Maybe there is a book circulating with all the types of cars on the road that these muppets use to record their overtake victories? They were struggling to cross off TVR, when i appeared!

Tamora always got very positive road reactions although I found people tail-gating a lot more, probably just to work out what it was.
Seen hundreds of road-rage incidents and stupid driving when I used to do 30K miles/year - the only one that made me truly gasp in amazement was when some idiot on the motorway undertook me (and another car and a juggernaut!) on the hard-shoulder(!!!) doing well over 100. And it wasn't like he looked up the hard-shoulder first - he jinked into it across 3 lanes from the outside.

Hi,
I've noticed a fair bit of tailgaiting but it tends to be most prevelant with drivers of German made vehicles.

It's maybe been said before, but sometimes it's people just trying to read the badges on the back to find out what it is. )
Especially when you're driving abroad. Renault 5 full of Frenchies trying to park in the boot at 60mph to read the badge, which of course it illegible at any distance unless you know what it say IYKWIM.
