Hi Can anyone help me get an icon to appear on the URL bar of my web-site? I spent the last hour reading about these on M/S help pages and so far: I know they need to be saved as a .ico file type, they need to 16x16 pixels and apparently you need to save it in the root directory of your web-site. So I thought I'd done all that but it still doesn't appear.

I've certainly saved it as a .ico file type because in Windows Explorer the little icon appears next to the file name. I saved it in what I thought was the right place on my web-site but when I go to my web site it's not appearing!

Web site www.greenbear.org.uk

and the icon is here www.greenbear.org.uk/favicon.ico

The only thing is that maybe I don't understand properly what the root directory is, where I'm meant to save the icon file. I've stuck it in www.greenbear.org.uk is that right? Anyone able to help? wobble Rich...

it's working for me in Firefox - I can see your icon OK.

but not in IE6.0 but then no site's icons appear for me in IE6.

ICO files work nicely in FireFox and IE7, so it's worth adding them to your site.

IE6 only seems to use the icon when you bookmark the page.
The icon is then used in the favourites list and on the bookmarked page when you click on it.

I know it's not what you were expecting, but it's still good to have your bookmark stand out.

Problem is that I do have IE7 running on my PC scratchchin

Seeing other people's icons (like the blue P for Pistonheads) is what made me curious. And if I can see them for Pistonheads and ebay and Google etc. I'm puzzled why I can't see my little greenbear?

Ah ha... had to delete my history file and then for some reason it works - guess it reloads information about the site! clap Great!

Sad, isn't it, how I can get so excited by such a little thing bounce
