Despite having moved on to a 997S and currently a 997GT3 I do miss my old BoxsterS - sublime chassis and a much better looking droptop than 911Cab (IMO). However if I went back to one I think I'd miss the grunt I'm used to now. A bit of ferretting around has revealed that there are a few companies doing turb/engine transplants - Ruf, TTP etc. Thought this route sounded interesting - might make for some fun embarrassing 'faster' cars on track too. Wondered if anyone on here has experience of such beasts.

Cayman with a 997 3.8 "S" lump (or better still a Mantheyed MK2 GT3 engine) would be my weapon of choice.

Having driven a 3.4 Boxster S for three days last week, I'm begining to see some shortcomings in the whole 911 design ethos now................. boxedin paperbag Stares at feet whilst picking at his finger nails awkwardly

suppose it depends on how much money you have, and can afford to lose, but wouldn't a supercharger be a more cost-effective option?

The RUf version of the Cayman is the one to have if you have a spare £125k

Know what you mean about the Boxster .

Always fancied taking a sub-£20k 986 3.2S to create a road legal, track day toy. But, a bigger engine wouldn't be the first priority.

Reduced weight, chassis tuning, uprated brakes, better seats and harnesses, etc would come first, and cost far less.

Then perhaps look at the power options.

Plan would be to do all that at same time.

Simon Butterworth ran such a car in the Speed Championship, although his was a 2.7, I think, to run in the appropriate class.

Agree about adding lightness before power. That's a Chapmanism

I believe that Flemke has a Ruf 911 engined Boxster kicking about somewhere. Ask him his views on the matter because I think he has been less than impressed with the car.
