I might try this on our networks later...

Thoughts?

(I'd be interested to hear from the ISP owners amongst us)

Best Anti spam going is mail Essentials! SURBL is supported which is really really good! this software is soo simple to configure even when put up against Antigen and Puremessage and it is VERY effective out of hundreds of server structures this is the best Windows anti spam software i have found!

Not read all of the link u provided but i get the gist of it

Sounds interesting, I did hear about something similar where your smtp server waits for 20 seconds or so before accepting a connection. The idea being that a spammer trying to send 00000's of spams isn't going to faff about with >20 second timeouts. Similar concept to this one I think. All very interesting!

Interesting article. I'd be worried about losing mail.

We use Brightmail. Which rocks. Utterly.

I still collect most of my mail via my Demon address, which uses Brightmail (I think). I get about 50 spam emails a day to that address. When I turned off the ISP side spam filtering I got >2000 emails in one day, so it does collect a good proportion of the spam but it's not perfect.

I've seen clients using this method, and they do drop mails as the servers just give up :|

I spent £x0,000 recently on a hardware spam firewall for office / resale to client use...

I get < 5 spams a month now, with clients maybe getting 5 a week (from 3-400 a day!)

Hardware is the way forward

For home ISP use I have Demon and would agree with you.

We run an in-house Brightmail server at work. So I can tweak it. Which rocks. Utterly.
