right i am now in my new gaff fully decorated top to bottom, but now i am trying to get the TV and everything setup.

The problem i have is with Sky. I can not get a LOCKED signal.

I have been up to the dish checked connections, alighment it in roughly the same alignment as the neighbours dish. I am getting a Network ID of 7d4d and a transpomder ID of 0002. but the Signals is showing as "Not Locked" anyone had experience of this before.

Sky want £65 call out plus parts to fix.

Thoughts?

Thanks

steve

Obvious ones are, any trees in the way, oh and don't look at where the arm is pointing, it will be 10 / 20 degrees higher than that.

Any water damage, bad bends etc.

Could it have shifted in the wind, if so give it a wiggle with someone watching the screen, see if anything comes into view.

I have gave it a wiggle but nothing the signal strength and quality are both at 85%-90% which is why i am confused.

I have got a panasonic decoder box, now off to trawl the net of how to do a complete factory reset to see if that solves the problem.

I bought a meter from maplin which only cost a tenner and also bought the parts for a new cable. I also had a spare dish but plenty are available for not much money. Basically, have a crack at sorting it yourself. I can point you in the direction of a site that works out for you the angle you need to point the dish too if you like.

you might be getting 85-90% on a different satellite, like astra 1, it should say 0002

edit: just read the post properly, never mind

Good point,

Is it a dish that was there when you moved in?

Is it one of the mini-dishes or the older larger type, It could be pointing at the old satellite position rather than the current 28degree East of South (iirc)

Satellite positions are all based from a due south position, going ether east or west of south.

HTH, In fact HTR (Hope Thats Right) from memory.

Yep was the dish from when i moved in, I am not on a sky contract just doing freesat at the moment until everything is sorted.

I am now trying to figure out how to do a hard reset of the box, so when i di get up on the ladder it will update itself.

Direction the satalite is pointing is a seems to be a couple of degrees out compared to the neighbours dish, so will try and copy is installation angle and elevation this weekend to see what i get.

thanks

The main website I got information from is...

www.satcure.co.uk/

There's a free book on understanding how sky works and another one on installing sky you can buy. However, all you really need to know is how to orient your dish towards the right sat until you get the strength and quality up to above half way on the digi box's meter with the lock indicator on OK, the network id on 0002 and the transport stream on 07d4.

In order to point you dish in the right direction you'll need this site...

www.ses-astra.com/consumer/sites/international/How_to_receive/How_to_install/index.php

...and scroll down to how to install. This tool will give all your angles and you can check them with a compass. Do the left/right one first because the up/down is tricky because the signal comes in at an angle to the dish face if you see what I mean which makes things difficult to measure. What I did is get it pointing in the right east-west direction, then set up the up/down using the marks on the dish (ensuring the mounting post is vertical) and then using the signal meter to fine tune.

The signal meter I bought was this one...

www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=48325&criteria=satellite&doy=24m1

Good luck,

Mark
