I am trying to transfer files to my new PC. Have done most of it using a 1 gb memory stick but I am struggling to get my favorites and Outlook data - contacts, emails etc.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Where is this info stored and how do I transfer it to my new machine? Is it just a case of finding it and then copy and paste via the memory stick? If so what will happen to the internet favorites I have already saved on my new machine will they be overwriten.

I can't use the transfer wizard as my old machine is on ME.

Any help would be much appriciated!

I would take the HDD out of the old PC & install in the new one. Failing that, a HDD caddy, such as IcyBox or something.

I think the personal stuff is in a folder called 'Documents & Settings' in c: - similar to Windows XP.

If both of them have a network jack I'd suggest wiring them together.
In WinME share out the whole of the C: drive and make sure Everyone can read/write it.
In WinXP run the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, point it in the right direction, follow the instructions (you might need to copy the Wizard .exe to the WinME machine... it'll tell you how).

Let it run and bingo.

Hopefully.

I would not have a clue how to start removing a hard drive, but there must be an easier way.

I have found an Outlook folder in C: Docs & Settings/application data/ outlook, which of these folders will have the data in them and do I just copy any paste onto memory stick?

bow

Sorted! I have been trying to do this for over a week now and finally sorted it in less than an hour. I should have just turned to PH at the start.

Thank you.
