Hi there,

Does anyone know if it's possible to generate a "structured" PDF on-line.

The idea being, user enters a couple of details and the "system" goes off and puts them in the appropriate spaces of a pre-formatted PDF document and then returns the PDF to the user for saving/downloading/printing/whatever.

Say you had a target PDF form, with spaces for name and address. Then some "static" details and then a comment field. The user would enter their name and address and comments in to a typical form but the returned document would "look nice".

If you see what I mean?

If it's possible, does anyone know if it's expensive?

Thanks,

Certainly possible in most of the main server scripts like PHP, Cold Fusion or ASP.

What is your server/website running now?

Yeah I've written some BIG scripts for outputting 250,000 records (bout 2000pages) straight to PDF using PHP but also another alternative which is a bit simpler if to output data as printable HTML file and then use a PDF printer program

My server is Linux PHP at the moment. Would it need Acrobat distiller type software on the sever too? I'm assuming it will.

It may be that I can replicate the PDF document as HTML (I confess I hadn't thought of that!) but in the first instance I'd like to consider publishing straight to PDF.

Thanks for your help.

Yeah... that looks just about ideal!

Thanks, Plotty. Please tell me it was an arduous Google search that threw that up and not the first thing you came across.
