hi guys, im biting the bullet but need to be prepared, im of to the opc wilmslow tommorrow, they have a seal grey c4s on an 04 plate that i want. just wondering how much i might be able to knock the price down on her as she is £49995 any other advise on how to handle the opc's would be apprieciated
You are looking at the worst type of purchase, ie a late and so expensive example of the outgoing model. Not knocking the car (I love the 996 C4S) but this is £5k more than I would want to spend on such a thing given a) a nice 03 996TT could be had for £5k more, b) an early private 997 C2S could be had for the same! I would way prefer either of those options.
This is going to be harder for an OPC to shift given the showrooms are full of shiny new / nearly new 997s. Bargain hard! Assume a £2k discount off sticker price as a minimum and start from there.

yep. their standard margin they work to is to try and make £10 on each car that runs through their business.
I have a 51 plate C2 which they would retail for £38k. their part ex offer to me? yep £24K!!!!!

yeah, i heard that and
'd, then said, no, seriously... I imagine your response was about the same.
"ha ha. no. seriously." Followed by one of the following i hope:
a. A punch to the face
b. A scolding coffee to the face
c. A 996 inserted anally without lubrication
For a cash/financed purchase with no part/ex, you should be able to negotiate at least £2k, maybe more, off the price.
Good timing would be near the end of the month when they have targets to meet.
OPCs don't make £10k profit on used cars - more like £3-5k. When they buy the car in they have to prepare it to Porsche Approved standards, which can be costly, add the Warranty, RAC check, build in a part/ex allowance and vat on the profit.
OPC cars can be a good buy, but the best value would probably be a private purchase. If the car is UK OPC supplied and serviced, low mileage, full history, still under warranty and you get a pre-purchase inspection and HPI, then you have liitle risk.

Col, I bought my first 911 - a 993C4 off OPC Wilmslow in August 2001.
I tried to haggle on price but they wouldn't budge a penny. That may have been because it was the only 993 they had in - and it was a beut!
Anyway, since they wouldn't budge i asked them to get a piece of paper and write down a list of things i wanted them to do for me to conclude the deal.
This list included new rear tyres, some new wheel arch foils, 12 months road tax, full tank of petrol, fitting a Thatcham 1 PA2000, a bit of paint along the sills to tidy....you get my drift!
Basically, if you can find any fault with the car then get them to sort it.
HTH
ps email me if you get it, i'm in Blackburn, you can let me have a spin in it and i'll repay that with a spin in my GT3 when it arrives in April

I suppose its like anything if they're quiet and the car has been there for a while I'm sure with a bit of pushing and shoving you may get them to move on the price. Always look like your quite happy to get up and walk away. For what its worth Henry has a mk1 gt3 up for 45k at moment I know what I'd be buying.

yes, but you arent comparing apples with apples
a 997 c2s has a more powerful engine than the standard car - to tbe best of my knowledge the 996 4S is simply a wider bodied 4 with the same engine.
if you can find one then a standard 997 Carrera 2 will be a better drive and hold its money much better - they are in the dealer network at sub £50k.
negotiation with a opc is often fruitless unless you print out an alternative similar car ans say you are going to buy theirs or his today. say his looks fine and you will do the deal (if you will) but he needs to do the price or else you must go and look at the other one. be prepared to walk out and always leave a mobile so he can call you 10 mins down road...

oh mate thats not the good part.
the sharp suited twunt came out of his office with his clip board and and the audacity to say "so how much to you think your car is worth then?"
naturally I replied "I know exactly how much its worth but that figure will not be written on your pad"
and when delivering the killer blow he didnt even seem embaressed. the sales technique is pure genius. Think all OPC salesman must go to the Herman Goebbels schools of propaganda
