BET YOU WISH YOU HAD A C4 TODAY..... or a 911TT!
My 993tt was fine, I made sure she was off boost most of the time - no problems, then again most of the snow and ice had gone in Leeds this morning.
I was quite looking forward to 'learning the chassis' at walking speeds but it didn't happen.

Correct tyres make more difference than 2/4wd. But, in this country it isn't worth the bother of swapping to winter tyres for the odd bit of snow that only lasts 5 minutes.
Far better to hone one's driving skills. I'm off to do Porsche's Winter Driving Course at Tweng, near Obertauern in a few days driving Boxster/Caymans and 997s on their ice/snow circuit. Should be fun.

Last year I found the 996tt a handful on a straight bit of road in a sudden snow fall .
Bit scary when your doing about 40mph and then you are skidding in a straight line on a duel carriage way.
I think the size of the wheels dont help. 4wd or not, if there is no grip there is no grip.

Agreed.
and it's exactly the same on a Defender too.

Actually that's the problem in the UK, most don't understand the reason for winter tyres. They are NOT just for snow. Their main purpose is in wet conditions at or below +7C. They provide far more grip when below this temperature , especially when the road is wet but also when it is dry. The efficiency of normal summer tyres drops off dramatically below this temp.
Most people in Northern Germany which has a similar climate to the south of the UK (not much snow) fit winter tyres between October and April. If you're involved in an accident and you don't have them fitted, you can be liable just for that fact.
Over here (in Germany) garages store sets of winter wheels over the summer for a nominal fee (and summer wheels over the winter) and it all works very well. This is also the same for Austria and probably other continental countries.

Too right. Thought I'd have a laugh and take the GT3 down to the village for paper and milk this morning. MSCs and snow? My how I laughed. Mind you, cleared the lanes for everyone else - that front spoiler makes one mean snow plough although you need +400bhp to push the mound of snow in front of you! The Defender's coming out of the barn later - it's even got heated seats and front screen for heaven's sake. Ah the luxury. Bring it on ... nothing can stop that thing !

What do I know, I walked this morning.... I did put my big boots on, just in case
It's days like this make me wish I hadn't killed my E30
I find Hunter boots are good in the wet although a few people have recommended Barbours for mud and snow. Mine are a bit worn now so thinking of a change. May save a bit of money and go for 'n' rating this time or would that be false economy. Don't want to worry that the guy next to me has got an advantage when walking the Lab!

What's all this sliding you are talking about? PSM may not be able to defy the laws of physics but it certainly sticks two fingers up at them
