Bought a new laptop a few weeks ago from a major retailer which proved faulty. To cut a long story short what they have said is that if I remove all the software {Norton Antivirus and Microsoft Office Student and Teacher purchased from the same store at the same time as the laptop} and the problem persists they will replace the machine. They say that it may be the software making it do what it does.

My worry is that if after I remove the software I won't be able to put the Norton software back in the new machine as it has been registered to the machine I have now. The Office software can go on 3 machines so I will be able to put it in the new one but will be using up one of the 3 machines I can install it on and obviously I don't want to use this up.

The store says I will not have any problem at all. What do you think?

Assuming you have the original Norton CD then I can't see a problem (does it have an activation code etc. ?)

There is a code but can't that be used just once or 3 times in total in the case of the Microsoft software?

Nope. As long as you have the original CD and product key, you can reinstall your Office software.

As long as you've got a legit copy, install away. The very worst that can happen is that it won't activate over the internet and you have to make an annoying but brief call to Microsoft.

Don't bother installing Norton as it is one of the worst pieces of software I have had the misfortune to use.

If you do a search on this forum for Norton, it'll give you loads of better alternatives for free.
