Is there a function that allows one to blank out posts from certain forum users?

Yup, there's definitely a need for it. I'm getting sick of reading some people's crap.

yes yes

There are some people whose comments I just don't need to see and it would make reading the forums more enjoyable not to have to work my way around them. There are a number of threads that just seem to get masses of short, inane posts in a kind of banter. Sometimes very funny to read when in the right mood....but mostly much better for the contributors than anyone else popping by to read.

When the level of these sort of off-topic, thread hijacking posts gets too high the thread dies a death as no-one can be bothered to comment on them seriously any more.

This isn't a problem in the Pie and Piston but when it spreads into the other forums I would really like to be able to tune it out.

I'd also quite like a forum called "The Debating Society" or "PHers Parliament" or some such where issues of the day, not transport related, can be discussed: and Thread Noise isn't tolerated. General Gassing is for transport related debates...Pie and Piston is for Thread Noise...
