Tried taking the bike to work this morning, just a faff - I have a dirt track to get up before I hit the roads, so I turned back and got the train! But... Planning to finish early today and get the bike out and hit some of the local tracks before the snow melts! For the 400 metres or so I rode this morning it was great, even at no speed the bike was breaking traction at the rear... Just hope the snow stays!!!!!

We had enough on the drive and down our road to put me off. If I could get safely clear of the local roads I'm sure I could have made it in. As it is I had to suffer the usual muppetry on the train.

Steve.

Snow and/or ice is about the only condition I won't ride in. Had to once when it snowed while I was at work and it took me hours to get home on my usual 25-minute commute.

It isnt that bad if you take it easy. Used to scare the crap out of me but doesnt now. Rode in a lot of snow when in Pakistan / Himalayas and as with all other aspects if you practice enough in the snow / ice you can ride in it, but we don't get much of a chance to practice.

Chucked it down with snow in Edinburgh last year & I had a 30 mile ride home in serious snow! It was great! All the cars got stuck, traffic was horrific & I just took it real steady and filtered nicely through the whole mess! If I was in the car i'd still be there now!

Ditto, I use to ride in the snow and ice but that was when i had no choice eitherway! lost the back a few times in ice and that certainly put me off!!

Snow is fine with the right tyres but hard-packe / ice is unforgiving no matter how able you are unless you have spiked wheels.

And the killer for me.... Car driver's can't handle snow. Sitting at lights some years back, a car locked up and slid past me still doing 30mph.

Soft snow in a field with a trial bike is fun!

I used to ride in the snow, when I had no other choice. Don’t do it now because I don’t have to (use the car instead) and because of all the other idiots who don’t know how to drive in snow. Bikes in snow tend to be slower than the rest of the traffic leading to traffic sitting right on the rear number plate or very dodgy ‘push past’ overtakes. Neither of which help when you’re trying to keep upright and generally heading in the right direction.
