Fed up with having to jump the chim, it's time to give the battery a damn good charge.
I know it's in the footwell, but how does it come out? I don't want to rip the carpet to bits as the interior is pretty nice.

I'm ok with oily stuff, but not fiddly interiors as I'm a real hamfisted tw@t on times. boxedin

The battery box is held in by 2 bolts which you need to undo from underneath the car.
Remove the floor mats and mark a line where the box fits.
Pull the ECU and spagetti wiring out and slide the box towards the seat.
The battery can now be disconnected and removed from the box.

As ever refitting is the reverse of removel, and you'll be glad of the mark on the floor...

My '93 4.3 has a positive terminal in the offside engine bay, near the intake plenum (see top left of picture, the rubber insulator boot is rather grimy here, there's red underneath ) - anyone recognise this as a commercially available mod or is it likely to have been a 'bespoke' addition by the owner or whoever serviced it (the most recent invoices on the car are from TMS; before that it's been at Colin Blower's garage and The TVR Centre, amongst others)?

Anyway, I found it darn handy for connecting my battery charger as I'm not too keen on dismantling the passenger footwell, either...

Best option if you can, is fit something like the Accumate battery conditioner, then your battery is always in tip top condition regardless of how little the car gets used.
Going for a drive will not actually put that much charge back in to it, especially at this time of year as you'll have the lights on, heater, radio, wipers, etc.
The conection under the bonnet looks like something similar to the leven jump start kit.

Totally agree (as would half of PH's TVR owning membership probably) You can plug it into the ciggy lighter socket if you buy the extra connector.

Yep - my Chim is currently sitting on my drive with the accumate (situated in my house) plugged into the ciggy lighter. Nice full charge everytime I take her out.

Mine has the plug in the boot. Really proved its worth when the battery went completely flat. No battery, couldn't open boot to plug accumate in!

My old Griff never had an Accumate and to be honest, never needed it (except when the original battery came to the end of it's natural life). The new Griff has one fitted in the boot with a 3-pin plug attached. Is there any need to plug this in all the time? (the car is kept in a centrally heated garage and used at the weekends). Most it would go would be two weeks without being driven.

Having said that, it does have an incredibly lazy/slow starter motor. I'm surprised every time that it starts at all, but it does.

Hmmm, I've got one of those I think. The previous owner gave me a bag which contained a small transformer connected to a plug and two small crocodile clips - he said he used to plug it in to trickle charge the battery.

Even more stupid question.....where do I put those clips? Do I have to do the customary headstand to find the battery and pull the carpet back?

Mind you, it lives outside under a cover, so maybe not such a good idea.

Is it an accumate charger? If so the lead with the crocodile clips is detatchable and can be swapped for a lead with a ciggy input - contact Leven Technology - Its a couple of quid for the lead I think but no more nose-down in the footwell.

He said it was an accumulate charger...scratchchin that would be rather handy if I could swap the lead with a ciggy attachment...

Have a check mate, if it is i think i have a spare ciggie adapter. I've had my Accumate plumbed in, so have no use for it. Let me know and i'll brave the weather to dig through the garage

Straight to it, its a "Draper battery master" and unfortunately no detatchable wires. grumpy They go straight into the sealed black box which plugs into the wall.

Arse. But thank you anyway.

I've got a draper battery master,I cut off the 2 croccodile clips and soldered on a plug to plug it into the ciggy lighter. The plug was a couple of quid from Maplins but any car shop should sell them.
