Not sure if this is the right section, feel free to correct me! I'm setting up a website to sell sunglasses online, but I don't know any designers that can design and set up a site. I'm based in Birmingham, if any one has any suggestions/contact I'd love to hear them. Thanks

I'm not quite there yet but I'll have a site up and running to do this very soon. If you want more info feel free to email me and I'll let you have the URL.

Depending on your budget you could look at some off the shelf products, there are some free ones out there but most require some technical experience imo.

Hi Warren,

You need:

** Webhosting ** - I recommend Jamie's company www.register1.net

** SSL Cert **
This allows your site to use https for secure payments.
I recommend www.instantssl.com - uk company and a lot cheaper than other companies.
Cost £60 - 120

** Software **
You have two choices

Commercial (around £500)
Good support
limited customisation
(a lot of the smaller online stores use these, hence they look similar )
Very good for order processing and managing orders.

Open Source (£free)
Good support online. Problems may take awhile to fix. Unless your webdesigner is very experienced.
Can be tailored made to your exact spec.
Admin offers a good range of features.

Any ecommerce website needs a search feature. Most users use this to find what they need.
Place it fairly high up in the first half of the screen. When you type your product descriptions use words that users may search for in the title as well as the general description.

Good Luck

R.

We Sell SSL on Reg1 too, added benefit is that we'll do it all for you and install it, so you just order, pay and smile

Hi Warren,

I may be able to help you out, please drop me an email: simon[at]simbax.com. Here is an example of some of my latest work:

www.wehanghere.com

I also work closely with Jamie at register1.net so setting up a domain and hosting for you would be a doddle.

Thanks
