Spoke to scamera office - told me to send the NiP back unsigned, along with a note requesting photo - methinks my colleague is hoping that he cannot be identified as he had the sun visor down at the time.
Any thoughts on this ???

If he pinged scam in LanCASH££££££££re.. he will get Speed Aware offer as they offer across range. Other prats differ.. und ist these variances as well which make for rough justice too. It should all be standard across the country.

If it was a Gatso then his face wouldn't be visible (unless it's on the back of his head!)
Hmm interesting ..IIRC when I recently got scammed by a hidden van in berkshire there were some words in big bold type to the effect that they had photo evidence but that I couldnt have it, and that should I wish to see it I would need to go to court, would probably lose my licence and end up in jail being bubbas bitch. Or just sign here and take the 3 points and £60. SO now I have 3 points on my licence for 81 on an empty dual carriageway at 6am.
I guess different regions offer different approaches to this.

There was a note attached with 'frequently asked questions' - one of which was about the photo/video evidence. Said something to the effect that nothing was to be gained by requesting the pic !! (As most of them are 'in the back' shots...) The one that got him was a front facing one though - think personally that 46 is borderline really, what happened to the advisory 10% +/- 3 mph ???
Will keep you posted

10% speedo error is 44mph

wow 46 in a 40 limit. Shame our jails are full, such evil criminals deserve to have the book thrown at them. Don't you know all cars take 200m longer to stop for every 1mph you go over the limit?
amen to that. oh, and a billion more kids per year will be saved as a result. free to roam your area at night, twoc'ing cars and joyriding, whilst wearing their asbo badges with pride...
but as long as those that can pay are made to pay, then sod it.. the path of least resistance

That's not a true representation of how it's viewed though is it ?
The limit is a control measure that attempts to limit risk & define acceptable parameters.
It's not the most serious offence, which is clearly illustrated by the fact that it isn't a recordable offence & doesn't carry a custodial penalty (whatever speed you are doing).

I'm sorry VH, but yes it is a true representation of how it is viewed by many, or don't you read the other posts on here.
If you want somebody to blame for this, look at the rabid behaviour of certain police forces and scamera partnerships with regards to very minor speeding infringements. This behaviour gets even worse if anyone has the cheek to ask for evidence, e.g. copies of photos, or video evidence, before deciding if it is worth mounting a defence in court. The behaviour of the CPS, (and in some cases the judiciary), in circumstances like this is shameful. And before you start saying there is no point, there has been a recent case in my neck of the woods where a speeding conviction based on an LTI 20/20 has been overturned.

of course that was an exageration, but it's still the governments view (or at least, the view they are trying to enforce the populace into agreeing with.) There was an advert on not so long ago, which was along the lines of at 30mph you would stop here, at 34mph you would hit a child (don't know the exact speed they quoted.) This is what they want all people to believe, that if they travel within that predefined boundary they will be able to stop. Yet braking distance will vary with car, driver, weather and vehicle conditions, so the advert is misleading. However the government is trying to create a nation of zombies, with the mantra that speed kills.
Of course it does try and limit danger, but then going by that reasoning you could bring the Red Flag Act back in. I'm sure none of us here would have to look far to find a road with a speed limit set below what can be considered to be acceptable parameters, doubtless backed up by cameras.
Thirdly, in terms of a criminal record, no it is not a serious offence. However get caught 4 times, and you can no longer drive. This is a major thing, peoples jobs and welfare rely on it, and I personally would rather go to jail for a short time then lose my right to drive.
If you were to be caught speeding by a large degree, couldn't you be sent to jail for it though? Wouldn't that mean a criminal record? (Could be wrong on this one)

Again it's an exaggeration. Yes driving a car is a risk at any speed, but we don't get limited to red flag speeds do we ?
You may not have to look far to see a road which "you" consider to have an unacceptable limit, but then you may not be looking at it during the time of day & circumstances that the limit is set in mind for. We don't have variable limits & if you are setting them it's not going to be with regard to the maximum at optimum times.

But you know the high stakes, so why risk them if your licence means so much to you as so many do & then cry foul with the threat to their livelyhood ?

There is no custodial option for speeding offences (whatever margin). It would only be where you are charged with dangerous driving etc & that is not dependent on speed alone.
When was the last time you saw an advert telling you any of the following?
* Braking distances increase in the wet
* 4x4s don't stop any better in bad conditions than ordinary cars
* Tailgating is bad, and you'll almost certainly be found to be at fault in the event of a shunt if you do it
* You drive much faster than you think in fog if you're not careful
* Speaking of fog, don't dazzle people with your fog lights. And while we're on lights, what about "Don't dazzle! Dip your headlights!" (one from my childhood, there)?
* Always be able to stop in the distance you can see and reasonably expect to be clear
* Exercise lane discipline on motorways to help everyone get where they're going more quickly
* Indicate when you exit a roundabout, you
ing idiots!
* If you stay under 30MPH, you can safely collide with children
One of these items is not like the others, because it has been turned into a widely-screened television advertisement.

Actually there are adverts targeted at all kinds of activities. I see more adverts for a lot of these activities than for "speed kills".
Some adverts that are used include.
Don't die before you've lived
Driving in fog
Driving in rain
Driving on ice
Driving on snow
Don't tailgate - 2 second rule
Don't drink drive
Don't drive tired
Think bike
Signs
Teenagers around roads

Yes, yes. They're on the popular thinkroadsafety.gov.uk website in the press and campaigns sections.

When have you ever seen any of these on the telly? (I'll give you the bike one, even though it is a dodgy piece of video editing that teleports the bike in at the last minute, but the point is a good one and it's made)
It's only an advertisement if it's actually advertised.
ETA: And those environmental ones are shit. Think? Think what? Think "must use brakes a lot in low grip conditions"? Think "must put high beams on if visibility poor"? Think "In snow, stay in as low a gear as possible and maintain high revs"?
Think what? Educational campaigns should actually educate.
