Five weeks to go until my Cayman S arrives and I need to jig my cars around (passing the normal commutemobile to the missus).

Thought I'd ask about the Cayman insurance and they say they won't insure without a Tracker fitted.

Any advice on insurance before I start the phone chase?
Is a tracking device mandatory for a £50K car?

When I used to work for an insurer they demanded Tracker on every car over £40k. That car value bar has raised a bit now, but every Boxster I have had needed a Tracker - didn`t really matter which model or the value. It all depends upon which insurer you use - my mum`s new SLK didn`t, and that was more expensive! So have a ring around and see what they demand in terms of security and how this affects the premium you will pay.

In terms of Insurance - I`m with Tesco and have been for the last few years on all my Porsches - they will cover cars up to £80k now. Have found them to be really competitive. I`m paying £1150 for my 997s - and I`m 28 with a clean license and record. thumbup

You'll laugh at this one. Phoned up my insurance co to get a price for the 996 C2 I'm picking up on Saturday, went though the usual questions ...

is is right hand drive - yes
has it been modified - no
etc. etc.

Then they asked where it was to be kept - said on driveway. Then I added. Oh, but it has a tracker fitted - they asked is that standard fitment. I said, no, it was added by the previous owner last summer. She then said, oh - that means its been modified, so I have to go back to the beginning and it may increase the premium !!!

Doh.

Eventually found it didn't increase the premium, but it didn't decrease it either.

Get a tracker anyway - getting up, opening the curtains and finding the car gone is a truly terrible experience. Got my X5 back because it had one fitted, now my RS has one fitted with GPS - I would not have a high value car like this without one.
