Hotel between Le Mans and Calais
Discussion
We stayed at the Novotel near Rouen. There were a good few places in the same complex which came in at about 50e per room. Think this was the place....

Note for this year - get own room as sharing a bed with a mate who snores whilst you suffer stomach cramps and have to drive to Sheffield the next day aint good!

This year we're going dover - calais and saving a couple of hundred quid on the crossing so the money will be blown by going up market on the sunday night then a leasurly trip back monday.
posh pad half way back
It's even got a carting track if you still need to get more out your system and is an even better location if yor crossing is Le Harve or Cain.

My word! Quite a palace you've found here!
Not sure what they'll make of a group of Brits rolling in not having washed for 5 days, reeking of petrol fumes and uttering the question "where's the bar guv" to the dude in the Tommy Cooper fez. Enjoy.

Nice might stay myself.

Top recommendation is to head up to Honfleur. If you leave soon after the race you'll get there between 7 and 8. Its about half way to Calais. Lots of hotels all around the old harbour, smashing french seafood nosh in all the restaurants lining the waterfront and a great atmoshere. Lots of Brits stay there on the way back inc many PHers.
This is about halfway back going cross-country.

We've stayed there on Sunday night the last few years. Beer by the pool is especially welcome after the drive, and the restaurant is excellent.
Not going this year as the wifebeast
is having a 'special' birthday

Dave, me again! Rouen is the obvious place. On the south side of town aside the main route there's a Campanile, Formula 1, Ibis etc., all OK for 1 stop. See their websites. You can get into Rouen town centre easily too, maybe 15 minutes. Honfleur sounds great too, I may try that one year. This would involve a longer journey but the northern route does avoid Rouen town centre. R.
Depending what you are looking for but we stayed at the Hotel de la Licorne, just outside of Rouen on the way back from the classic last year, first page on the above link near the bottom.
Very nice period hotel and village in the middle of the forest.
It also has some covered parking spaces, but the complete car park is at the rear of the hotel with large double gates & is secured at night, no one can see or get in.

I'm going to be staying in Honfleur. Can you recommend a particular hotel?
Campaniles are pretty good value too.
We also used Rouen as our stop over on the way down & back.
Last year we left Sunday mid-day before the end of the race but were contemplating waiting till the end this year.
Is this advisable or are we in for 3 hours of queueing to get out of the circuit?

Hi dobbomk1 - We're booked in at the Hotel du Dauphin in Place Pierre-Berthelot just opposite the old wooden church of St Catherine. Its just behind the old port Go to 'www.hoteldudauphin.com' for more info. Great location and reasonable cost. We've stayed there before so know its OK. If you get booked in let me know if you want to meet up for a beer
or three. Edited by purple haze on Monday 26th March 14:00
