USB/SD Card external stereo interfaces

I don't own an iPod and have no desire to. I do want to connect something to my new car's headunit to allow me to plug in a USB stick or SD card in with MP3s on it.
Any ideas? Even if its an iPod adapter adapter. Anything to stop me needing to buy one of damn things.
Car is a Fiat Panda BTW - std stereo. Fiat offer an iPod adapter or a CD changer. I want neither. My other car has a headunit with USB/SD ports, but I don't want to replace the Fiat headunit (double DIN, would look crap etc.).
