That's the problem on here, there are so few people who actually get their hands dirty! 
We'll all be at the mercy of the indis' if we don't work out where to source these parts from!
BTW: I'd be interested in buying some top hat shimms as well, have found one place but I know I don't need 500 of the buggers!!!

We've had a few "anorack" evenings and read a lot of the service manual. 
And it will be fairly basic to do, but the tools are vital.
For me there is a lot of time and travelling involved to have the oil and filters changed and set the tappets so it's not even a question of not wanting to give the indi's the business, it's a question of necessity.
I have a feeling when we get the bits we need and get stuck into the job we'll be taking lots of pictures.
I still have 2000 miles to go before I will be doing anything to it but I need to start sourcing the bits now.

What's a "cam timing piece"? can't say i've ever used anything that seems even remotely like that .. ooo or is it that piece of scrap metal TVR sent out to set the valve heights maybe? And you dont need the TVr cam sprocket retainer, what's wrong with making your own out of a bit of alloy sheet like i did?

Cam sprocket retaining tool I made myself. If you weren't so bloody far away ireland you could borrow mine

Cam timing tool is two DTI long necks from chrono's .co.uk with a magnetic base.
I have a little packet of top hat shim spares now, and every time I do a tappet check it seems to increase in size.

Yep, no problem. Maybe we could video a collective effort and post it somewhere , for people to critisize and jools/andy/mark to laugh at.
The only thing I havn't got yet is a reliable way of measuring TDC for cam timing. I got to make a pug thread dead stop, cos the last time I did mine, I did it with a wire down the plug hole and not convinced that is accurate enough.
I was going to make something for next time I did mine, so you might prompt me to pull my finger out.
