I've just seen a TVR Tuscan on tow, the driver of the 'recovery' vehicle had the back end off the ground, but the front wheels weren't straight so the car was sort of crabbing as it went along. Surely this wouldn't do it much good??

The driver then stopped, and put a sort of trolley under the front wheels so that they were all off the ground. While he was doing this I wandered past the car to see that it had a bailiffs removal sticker on the window.

I took the reg of the TVR, and of bailiffs vehicles in case it was someone doing something they shouldn't be. Sad to see really.

Happens quite a bit, you'd be surprised at the exotica going through auctions as repossessed.

You would expect that if someone is in trouble, the first thing they'd do would be sell the nice car, rather than be robbed blind by bailiffs. I dread to think what they will give as a price for it.

Do these cars tend to go into a standard car auction or a specialist one, and do they tend to go for decent prices? Does anyone know where the best car auctions in London are?

As sad as it is that someone has bought such a fine machine and found themselves upon such hard times that it comes to this, surely it would be a good place to bag a bargain?

These repossesions are usually because someone has not kept up with the payments and so they can't sell it cause its not theirs. Often the case that the more expensive the car the more that is owed on it

Not exactly in London - it's on the A30 near Yateley in Hampshire, if it's the one I think you mean. One of my neighbours got his RX8 there, it seems to be pretty sorted.

Used to work as a field agent (repo guy), normally cars go to main auctions like BCA or Manheim to be held, pending instructions as some times the original hirer can get the car back by paying arrears etc, however in most cases the cars are pushed through the block with a high reserve and when they don't sell, they are put through again and sold with any shortfall being chased up by the finance company to original hirer.

With regards "specialist cars", they are usually taken by the finance company to a secure garage and then put into a special auction for the type of car, sometimes they are put on SOR at dealers, really depends on the finance company concerned.

Depending on the situation and how long the customer has known its about to go, can dictate the condition of the car, ex employee cars are a nightmare, as they trash them if they are owed money by their employer or if somebody has gone skint, they don't seem to visit the dealers as often as they should.

Also if its something nice, expect a call for it on a Friday.................well the weekend is not a good time to drop them off at an auction house is it!!
