Today i was on the M1...progressing with the flow of traffic at a not unreasonable (but above 70mph, admittedly) speed.

There was a HATO land rover parked on a bridge over the motorway, and i wondered if he was monitoring traffic or acting as a collector of the Travel Tax.

HATO vehicles are these ones, for reference:

Probably hoping to look like bib, which they do to some motorists. So we get more panic braking and bunched cars on the motorway. Be nice to see some raised speed limits imo.

I had a "stressful moment" on the M65 this morning when another, how can I put this, "less aware" driver spotted a HATO car up ahead.

They dived from lane 3 to lane 2 right in front of me and immediately stood on their brakes. rolleyes

It would be a shame if they were given powers to do you for speeding. One of my favourite motorway pass-times is pulling level with a HATO range rover, making eye contact with the driver and then putting my foot down (up to a legal 70mph of course)

Got a funny feeling the way things are going it's just a matter of time. But of course every time i pass one at an incident i think it's a matter of time before one flaps it's arms too much and flies into L2.rolleyes

The slamming of brakes happens pretty much every day on the M3 at the southern Basingstoke exit. HATO van on top of bridge = cars braking.

Only trouble is sometimes (actually much more rarely since HATO vans appeared) it is you friend and mine the BiB
