CF rims for the GTW

Spoke (no pun intended) to Dymag yesterday and have settled on a set of CF rims. The reason for wanting mainly a set of different dimension rims was to widen my choice of tyres and it has sort of worked. I am going for 9.5 x 18 with 265/35 X 18 on the front and 12 X 19 with 315/25 X 19 on the rear. I can get Yokohama AdVans in these sizes and after much research and thought, consider this to be a worthwhile upgrade. The only downside is the hideous cost involved but I have become accustomed to this over the years (since the project was undertaken any how).

What ones did you go for W, they do look rather tasty, are they pure carbon or are they a kevlar mix?
Carbon is strong but a bit brittle and breaks down with UV light, would have though mag wheels would be better but they are quite soft leak and bend.

Its a shame they don't make a light large tyre, the avon's ACB10 is light as hell.
I would have thought a rear tyre is what 3-4 Kg each. :0

How much weight do these save over a good quality light wheel, like Kinesis?

And what happens when you hit a pot hole?

Read from somewhere that the Dymag carbon fibre/magnesium hybrid wheels make use of titanium to cover the carbon fibre for extra protection. Think a 18x11 cf/mag wheel weighs in at about 14lbs. What's the weight of a kensis 18x11 wheel?

carbon fibre rims are great until you kerb them.

Although whilst 18in CF rims will save a bit I'd say going down to a 16in rim would save more, then you can spend the money saved going for smaller carbon brakes.

Do you know what, I didn't even ask about the weight saving over mag rims (forgot) and am not really that bothered, they will obviously be lighter but the tyre situation and the coolness of the things are what really appeal.
On a separate note, I emailed Kinesis about the availability of some 3 X piece split rim centre lock wheels and they said that they only supply a few U.S. teams and could not supply me? Bit of luck, they might go bust (only joking but would you credit it?), Weirdies.

With regards to potholes Dymag have assured me that there should be no problems other than those that may be experienced with the use of mag wheels.
I have already curbed a rim and would expect a slightly more radical result from a carbon rim so I will have to be double careful in future. I drive a couple of vans amongst other things from day to day and as a result consider myself to be a fairly competent pilot of a wide vehicle but the Ultima is different again because not only do you sit low and to the middle of the car but the car itself is low to the road and wide to boot.
