I need some new leathers. Has anyone been to J&S in Bristol as was thinking of taking a trip down there to see what sort of selection they have.

If they're anything like the Northwich shop, there's a pretty good selection.

Check their website, if you haven't already - loads of gear. I have used their Nottingham shop many times and had some very reasonably priced kit from them. My first set of leathers was bought there, as well as boots, gloves, locks, etc.

not bad. I bought myself some teknic leathers which are very good and have had good reviews in the mags. bought the jecket at the NEC and the trousers at Riders in Bristol. harley and duke dealer.

worth trying on the Teknic as they are very good

I got:
www.teknicgear.com/catalog.php?styleid=1&pid=8

also worth trying Fowlers, not cheap but a good range of leathers

Thanks for the replies. I've checked their website but wondered how much of a selection they have in their shop as i like to try the suits on to see which fits best. Forgot about Fowlers so thanks for the reminder.

I wouldnt go to any J & S with high expectations , or tbh any expectations and you wont be disapointed .

They tend to sell stuff that is way out of date and poor quality budget gear.

But , horses for courses , imho their advertising is very misleading and not at all representative of what you will actually see hanging up in store .

Infinity are pretty good.
They have more offers in store than on their website.

This is also my experience of the Northwich shop when I lived there and the Newbury shop (where I live now) when it was open. My recommendation would be to find your nearest Hein Gerricke. They may be slightly more expensive but their own goretex kit, for example, put J&S's IXS kit in perspective as the over priced budget crap it is.

There was some place advertising in Bike called click2buybikegear.co.uk: dunno what their stuff is like, probably non-branded kit made by child slave labour in Huang Chun Province but seems cheap enough... IIRC it was £149 for 1-piece suits!

Don't get all sanctimonious on my arse, I'm just telling you It's up to you to decide to reduce cholesterol... or wear expensive leathers...

You generally get what you pay for. I have yet to see a full suit for less than £300 that was worth the money. Most under that price are very thin leather with single row stitching. Not what you want when you are sliding down the road.

agreed. go for a >100mph crash in most off the peg leathers (including 'die-easy' and alpinestars) and you'll find out why most club racers and the guys road racing on the isle of man and in Ireland wear custom leathers....

To be fair if you crash at 100+ on a public road and you don't have lots of sliding room, you're probably going to be in need of more than a bit of stitching to save you.

Best buy Ride mag.
The reviews seem the most impartial.
Surprising how well some of the cheaper brands do in the tests.
