Can a fault with this cause excessive oil consumption?

Question is wrt VAG 2.0 130bhp engine from 2002.

*Oil* consumption? Not easily. If the engine was running very rich then you could eventually suffer from excessive bore wear which would eventually lead to oil consumption, but if that happened then the oil consumption would be the least of your worries.
